Benchmarks & Conclusions

Benchmarks:
Today's test system consists of the hardware listed below, and as with all good testing, a clean install is used and the latest Windows Updates and manufacturer drivers are applied. The applications used in today's tests are the latest of what was available at the time of this analysis.

Notes:
  • CPU and motherboard power saving features are disabled during overclocking.
  • Any pre-fetching/caching options in the BIOS are disabled for consistency where available.
  • Hyper-threading and Virtualisation support is enabled by default.
  • Intel Turbo Boost technologies are disabled when overclocking; enabled when at stock.
  • Each benchmark is run multiple times, and then the final result is averaged.

Conclusions:
Gamer-focused motherboards that are topped with features, wild colour schemes and extravagant heatsinks aren't always going to appeal to everyone, but on the other hand it's one way you can stand out from the competition. Integrating products like the Killer NIC and SoundBlaster X-Fi add-on cards into the motherboard design really makes the motherboard stand out from any competing products, but let's not forget its striking heatsink design and colour scheme topped with more than enough LEDs to light up any case. Combine this with an over-engineered design and extensive software suites and you have one 'Killer' high-end gaming motherboard with enough features and tweaking abilities to write multiple articles about. So the colour scheme and heatsinks are something you either like or you don't, but the features and specs are where this board really shines.

All in all, GIGABYTE's G1.Assassin motherboard offers more features, USB ports, SATA ports, fan headers, power phases, PCI-Express slots and unique GIGABYTE technologies than you can shake a stick at. From the consistent green and black theme, to the quality components and circuitry utilised, you can see that GIGABYTE have really taken some time to make sure they don't skimp on anything when designing their first range of gamer-focused motherboards. But if you can't get past the XL-ATX design, then there is always the G1.Sniper that takes the majority of key design features and slims it down to a standard ATX form factor with a lower price point, so that's always another option. GIGABYTE's range of G1-Killer motherboards is available in Australia now and comes with a 3 year locally supported warranty.
