Logo MIA:

Quite a few of you noticed that out logo was missing from the stats pages, Darkness had it linked to a server at alienmedia. I have sorted out Statsman but have yet to do the Stanford pages.

Giveaway2 Week Three:

After just 3 days there are already 353 members qualified for the draw for the hard drive on Monday. Hopefully by the end of next week we can get that up to 500 members chasing a bit of water cooling action.

Flogometer :

Finally its gone green again after a few days stuck in red mode and a fair flogging by the oc.com guys. We need to make up a lot of ground if we are to get back in front for the weekly numbers, we were trailing by 3,600 points this morning.

Huge Gro's:

The guys at Stanford have released a Gromac for general use, its a biggun at 33 points and you don't need the "-advmethods" switch to get it.

Project 540 is released on server 124. Hopefully, this will be the first stable Gromacs WU for general (non-adv/bet) users! Credit is 33.0, and it will take ~ 1 day on a decent machine.

Thanks!
Young Min

Amran is back and needs your numbers:

Hi fellow folders,

Some of the older members may remember we had a Fastest Folding Machines web page that basically listed people's best times for certain proteins in a competitive format.

That page was 100% hand written in notepad and as a result I couldn't maintain it alone. I have spent some time playing with PHP and MySql, hopefully soon the page will be back and require little maintenance.

Anyway, all I need at the moment is a heap of people who use EMIII to drop by this page and whack in their folding name, protein and time taken to complete a protein (benchmark too would be good). This will give me a larger database to play with and let me test my input page.

You can find your best time by opening EMIII, clicking on the microscope (top left) then using the arrows (top right) to find the "HTML Stats" page. Click on "Make HTML", then "View HTML". You can then find your best time on the resulting HTML page.

At the moment I only need times for:

p388_perm
p542_BBA5 in water
p638_L939_K12M_ext
P651_TZ4_EXT
P633_TZ3_EXT

I'm trying to find out what the most common proteins are so I can get some more people entering data. Please let me know if you know of some popular ones.

Thanks guys!

EM3 Updated :

What's New:
Fixed core unknown problem
Genome tracking problem
Using Email address as username
Fixed Chime display problem
New EM Calculator Feature
Date/Time stamp added to HTML pages
Title change for Allstats.html page
Fixed the image save routine

When displaying the info in the queue.dat file, the display would show core unknown under certain circumstances. This issue has been fixed.

It seems the sequence of events changed or slowed down and EM was always one frame behind in the display after frame 1 was finished. I fixed this issue so it should now correctly show the number of completed frames.

When using email addresses as usernames, EM would not return the scoring info from Stanford because Stanford removes everything after the '@' symbol to keep web crawling spammers from scraping your name off of the web pages used for displaying work unit scores. EM can now return your score when you use your email address as a user name.

When displaying the protein using the Chime display, Gromacs proteins many times showed strange bonds and improper elements. I have fixed this issue.

If you right-click the protein image and select "Calculate Points," EM will open the calculator program (needs to be in the same folder EM is running in) and will insert the info for that protein into the proper places and calculate the info for you without the need to enter anything. Be sure and download the latest version of EM Calculator.

A Date/Time stamp has been added to the HTML stats pages. This will make it easier to identify exactly when the pages were generated.

The title for the allstats.html page (auto generated) has been changed from the default page name to "All Protein Data" which should make it easier to identify.

When saving a Genome protein image, EM sometimes did not remove all the bad filename characters. This caused some odd filenames to be generated that confused the operating system. This issue should be resolved.

New Milestone page :

Since DG upgraded some of his many machines he has had a habit of break things around here. First it was the Folding Clubs, he has broken all records going from the 19,000 Club all the way up to the 37,500 Club with more to come. He is very close to outscoring the "anonymous" user (which is a conglomerate of unknowns) which is an outstanding effort. Anyway along the way he has also broken the Milestone Selector as well and a new one was needed urgently since DG has quietly slipped into 320,000 Milestone Club and is rapidly heading towards the next one. The Milestone Selector now goes up to 950,000 points and it is easy to add new clubs when the need arises, say in a few months time when DG hits the million mark. Well done big fella your efforts are much appreciated and have gone a long way to but a buffer between us and the oc.com team.

Electron Microscope III v2.3.6 (Update) :

What's New in Version 2.3.6
Genome Team Selection Recognized
Genome Image save fixes
Genome Score display
Status Icons show info
New EM version alert
Fixed Genome EM Calculator issue
EM starts when Windows starts option

I have fixed the point display when Genome work units are being done in conjunction with a Genome team number. The point values are different when you are a member of a FAH team doing a Genome work unit rather than a member of a GAH team doing a Genome work unit. EM now detects this configuration and displays the correct number of points you will get which depends on this information in your config file.

It seems that there are some garbage characters that show up in the image save routines when dealing with Genome work unit names. I have made some adjustments that will hopefully fix this issue.

If the Genome work unit is the first client in the list, and the team number is a Genome team, then the score recovered and shown in the score window is your Genome score and number of genes. The Folding info will be as usual if you are a member of the Folding team.

The status icons now have a "tip" that explains what core is being used. I hope this ends the confusion. If there is a problem, the tip will also display the possible issue.

If you have EM set to alert you when a new version is available, a web browser will be launched and you will be taken to the EM web site when you click the message.

When launching the EM calculator to figure out point info when using a Genome work unit in EM III, EM III would return an error. This issue has been fixed. It was related to the garbage characters in the protein name noted above.

Added a selection in the Options menu to add a shortcut to the StartUp folder. EM also removes it if you uncheck the box. This option requires that Windows scripting be installed. In most cases it should be there if you have Win 98 or higher and one of the newer versions of Internet Explorer installed.

Enjoy!

Giveaway2:Major prize draw and the winner is... :

Welcome to the final draw for Giveaway2. The Awakening

The winner of the water cooling package donated by CoolPC

is
3980 - Duallayerformat

The winner of the clear acrylic case also donated by CoolPC

is
1626 - griffo

Congratulations to you both and send me a PM with your details and I will pass them on to Rob.

I would like to thank David (DGROMS) and Rob from CoolPC for donating the great prizes for this Giveaway. They have been very generous and we appreciate it very much.

This Giveaway was designed as a recruitment drive and to reactivate some of the inactive folders. This has been achieved, just before the Giveaway was announced we had 543 active folders from 3103 members. We hit a top of 659 active members a few days ago and currently we have 3223 members. So an increase of 116 active members over 5 weeks isn't to bad.

Plans are in progress to have another Giveaway in the next few weeks so don't stop folding because you will miss out on the all important bonus number that could just win you a great prize.

Saturday 19/04/03

Quick Hello :

Welcome back mutantaxe, its good to have you folding for OCAU once again.

Flogometer :

Even though our output has been on the increase over the past week oc.com have had a growth spurt (oc.com thread) that has seen them out produces us and take back the black line on Statsman. With Easter and the school holidays upon us we may be in the red for a while till things get back to normal in a couple of weeks time. We also have a special treat coming our way about then that should give us a boost and remedy the situation and make the Flogometer totally green once again.

Fastest Folders Page :

Amran has done a lot of work on the Fastest Folders page and its coming along nicely now. If you want to show off your super fast hardware drop by and submit a score or two. Here is the associated thread in the forums.

Statsman woes :

Yet another stats reset for everyone on the OCAU team page yet for some reason the numbers for the Top 1000 individuals are ok. If you are lucky enough to be in the top 1000 and you reach a new Folding Club let me know in this thread and I will change your club status.

Top 500 :

This weeks xylus 500 has been updated.

Tuesday 22/04/03

Fastest Benchmark:

The Fastest Benchmark list has moved to Amran's  Fastest Folding Machine site now. There are some impressive numbers turning up over there from other teams so go and have a look and see if you can beat them and put OCAU back on top.

G3 coming soon :

I am just finalising the prize list for the next Giveaway so look for an announcement later this week with an expected start date of the 5th of May.

Flogometer :

Its getting redder and redder!!!

Folding Clubs :

Seeing that Statsman isn't up to speed yet and the stats from extremeoc seem to be fairly accurate now, I think we can use them until Statsman catches up. So until that happens I will do a daily update using extreme's numbers.

Giveaway3- Test Run :

When you check your name on the nominations pages you will see how many points that you or your subteam have done since yesterday afternoon. This is just a test run to see if everything is working out.

Wednesday 30/04/03

Flogometer under pressure :

The Flogometer is coming close to reaching full working capacity today with a score of 5545 Flogometric Units (FU's) being registered by our team over the oc.com team for the past 24hrs to 7am WST. So far today we are 4271 FU's ahead and looking good to push the Flogometer to its limits tomorrow. If that's the case I think I will order the Deluxe Pro ULTRA version tomorrow from the ACME Electric Factory No2 who have done a great job of supporting our team so far.

Giveaway3- Pending Members :

I have put the new members who have nominated for the Giveaway but have yet to produced their first points on a pending table until they slip one in. Once they have join the team proper then they can join the rest of the members in the pursuit of some great prizes.

So far we have had 338 people sign up for G3, we had 403 nominees for G2 by the end of the first week and 486 all up. I think we should beat those numbers quite comfortably.

For the new folks to the team if you want to increase your through put and make sure you get the Gromac type proteins add these switches to a shortcut of the Folding exe file.

Graphical client

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\winFAH.exe" -advmethods -forceasm

Console client

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\FAH3Console.exe" -advmethods -forceasm

With switches in place you will mainly get the 33 point proteins with the occasional 18 pointer coming through. The Gromacs process at lot quicker than the Tinkers proteins due to the FAHcore_78 using the SSE/SSE2 and 3DNow extensions of your CPU.

Return to Main Page.
