Bits and Pieces:
Since the Extreme stats went belly up there has been no Folding Club updates. Extreme is back up now but the numbers on that page for the PPW will be out of whack till later this week. So I have been through the BEATtheBOX data and manually checked everyone's numbers and did a little mass promotion. Check out the Statsbar above to see is you have a new club badge to wear.

I have added the 100k race to the Gauntlets section in the Statsbar.

With the Flogometer I have added a "Status" indicator to the bottom of the frame. At the moment the the [H]orde have two << indicating that they have 2 of the 3 bars on their side and we have one > indicating that we have the remaining bar on our side. The coloured border around the word "STATUS" will also change in accordance to the amount of bars each team has, currently that is 66% red and 33% green.

Christmas boxen everywhere:... XFBOX001 and XFBOX002 and just a little bit more.

After some discussion with Computer Alliance we have arranged some nice discounts for the main box.

So here are the details

XFBOX001
CPU: XP2500+ - Bought from Computer Alliance
Motherboard: ABIT NF7-S Donated by Altech and ABIT
Memory: 512MB PC3200 Geil - Bought from Computer Alliance
Hard Drive: 80G Seagate SATA - Bought from Computer Alliance
Video Card:
GeXCube Radeon 9600 XT Extreme with Halflife 2 voucher- Bought from Computer Alliance
DVD: Pioneer 16X - donated by Plus Corporation
CDRW: Liteon 52x32x52x - donated by Plus Corporation
Case: Enermax Full tower and 400W Leadman PSU - Donated by Computer Alliance.

XFBOX002
CPU: AMD Athlon 2200+ XP
Mobo: Epox 8K3A+ Motherboard with on board RAID controller
Memory: 256M DDR RAM
FDD: 1.44M
HDD: 40G Maxtor 7200rpm HDD
Video Card: 64M ATI Radeon VE Dual Head Video Card
Case: Millennium midi tower silver case with side fan and front USB
DVD: AOpen 12x DVD
Peripherals: Windows PS2 Keyboard and Optical Scroll Mouse.

All parts for XFBOX002 were donated by Computer Alliance.

Seeing that we have received a nice price on the bits from CA for the main box I think that we can have a 3rd prize providing we reach the 100 issued share mark.

How does this sound for an idea, The FBOX collection donates a HDD, video card and NIC (if required) also a case plus $150 to spend at Computer Alliance to help build up a folding box provided the money goes towards a CPU or motherboard.

I think because of the size of this the cut off date for donations will be extended by one more week to Monday the 22nd of December to allow for the 3rd prize to be a reality and to give us and the Sponsors a bit more exposure.

Christmas Box Thread is here if you are interested in a chance to win some great folding boxes.

But wait there's more, all donators to the XFBOX will be added to the other donators to the FFF for a special BYO draw early next year. So that's 4 chances to win something, now that's value for money.

FBOX10:... leonard does it again

Hi all,

Well I had the great fortune to win FBOX10, a stellar little beast (check out the specs on the FBOX page).

As a post-Xmas gift to all those generous and eager Beat The Box nominees I offer the chance to WIN IT.

All you have to do is:

A. Be a Beat The Box qualifying Nominee;

B. Agree that if you win, the box is used as per BTB rules, i.e. folding 24/7;

C. Not be a past winner of an FBOX (sorry but let's spread the fortune;

D. Post a joke in this thread!

My nomination as funniest joke (no discussion will be entered into - it's my sense of humour!) will win FBOX10 postage free to anywhere in Oz (as long as you get a postal service which doesn't require the use of any animal intermediary i.e camel, pigeon etc).

I'll announce the result in a new thread on Jan 1st. Bollocks will vet the winner to make sure they qualify etc and then the box will be flying!.

So get those jokes in - you've got until December 31st. I'll laugh at virtually anything but am particularly amenable to really clever ones - smut or not!

leonard

Well done Len you are unbelievable with your generosity, so far you have donated 2 CPU's which we have built 2 FBOXes around and given away a prize from one of the Giveaways. Also donating a complete computer to looktall and numerous other bits and pieces that you have given away that many of us, me included.  We salute you.

The Folding Joke Off is here.

XFBOX: news
The XFBOX Giveaway has its own page now with all the details about the prizes and rules and there is also a donators page with the allocated numbers. Also I would like to thank the sponsors for the Giveaway for making it possible, so go pay them a visit and hopefully they will help us out next time, if they get a good response from the Folding community.

FAH LogStats: Update
Buzzard has a new version out (0.70) you can read all about it here on its very own web page.

Version 0.70 Released

Time for a new release. No big internal changes (cept for bug fixes), but several new features.

  • FTP URLs should work fine now (and '@' is allowed in a password)

  • Custom webpage selectable in settings form

  • Very simple version check

  • Can disable multiple threads (default enabled)

  • Program now creates a log file (for problem functions). Size is limited.

  • Project lists from Stanford now update correctly

  • Different Verbosity levels really work this time :-)

  • Inbuilt *simple* web server that listens on port 2501. Beware, little security. (default disabled)

  • File creation error messages no longer displayed (but are written to the log file)

  • New popup template with a grey theme

Also buzzard is after a new name to replace FAH LogStats because the current one "is plain awful" (quote from Buzzard). If you have any ideas let him know by adding a comment here.

XFBOX: news

The specs For XFBOX001 has changed just a little bit with the video card being upgraded to a "GeXCube Radeon 9600 XT Extreme" from a "non Extreme" card. Below is a snip from the GeCube.com website

GeXcube Game Buster Radeon 9600XT goes Xtreme this Christmas bundled with 2 hottest 3D Game!
GeXcube Game Buster R9600XT Xtreme takes the crown with core at 500Mhz and overclocking capability by raising the default memory clock utilising 2.5ns memory speed to 740Mhz~750MHz clock. It is now THE fastest R9600XT available for the series. Due to the higher memory clock, GeXcube R9600XT Xtreme holds quite a substantial lead, 15~20%, over standard R9600XTs .

GeXcube R9600XT Xtreme would be a top pick if you want the fastest stock R9600XT, with a blazing overclocking up 750MHz memory clock. Bundled with 2 hottest 3D game "Black Hawk Down" and "Half-Life 2" limited promotion up to December end with the best value for your bucks ! Have FUN and 3D Entertainment for this Christmas and New Year !!

Check out a review here at OCtools.com

So far we have 134 numbers allocated for the draw and with more donations coming in by the day. If you would like to enter the draw check out the XFBOX page for all the details.

New folding client: Version 4 has been released

Version 4 has been released for general consumption. Here is the announcement from the Folding-Community forums. Our thread is here.

The Folding@home v.4 client is now available, for all platforms, on the download page ( www.folding.org/download.html ). Thanks to all who provided feedback.
The client incorporates many requested changes. Platform specific notes can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate "4.00" link in the above page, but below is a generic list of improvements. Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks!
Guha

- Configurable minimum checkpointing frequency (3-30 minutes). *
- If client run with verbosity of at least 5, FahCore_78 will print out a
message whenever a timered checkpoint occurs.*
- -configonly flag added to configure then exit.
- -oneunit flag added to exit after completing one unit.
- -forceSSE flag added. Returns -forceasm to its former meaning of forcing assembly generally, and takes on the function of forcing SSE specifically.*
- Warnings printed if -forceasm/-forceSSE flags given.
- Benchmarking not done except at start of normal operation (for example, not if only configuring, listing queue, deleting unit, etc.).
- Warning if attempt to run client with Machine ID of already running client (catches most common cases, including if running same client twice)
- Web site printed updated.
- Upon finishing a unit, if fails to return the result but succeeds in
getting new work, immediately tries sending all results again.
- Checks user name and team number for legality of use in statistics. (In
GUI, gives popup error).
- Queue info properly outputted to FAHlog.txt.
- "Ask before connecting" change on Linux -- ignores typeahead and asks for "C"
- Proxy password written out in binary (upon reconfiguration)
- Assignment/work server request authentication
- Send all message altered ("sent x of y" if x not 0, or "no units...")
- CPU usage default of 100 printed out during Configuration.
- Tags in MyFolding page changed to better adhere to HTML standard
- Maximum machine IDs raised to 8.
- Upload and download bandwidths estimated to send to AS.
- If fails to post data, includes server and port in message. Also outputs
HTTP status code (before this was only done if I.E. settings used).
- Bug fixed where performance fraction could exceed 1.

Of interest to Genomers:

- Batch networking option for G@h (Network when less than 2 units
ready to work on or more than 5 results to return, and when network, both get up to 10 units and send any results. Also attempt to get new units at startup.).
- If set G@h preference, reflected in GUI title and acknowledgment message.

Windows specific:
- Version information added to executables.

Windows GUI specific:

- Can select and display any GIF file as a logo, and set a URL for the logo to link to.
- Can add any text to displayed alongside the program title (perhaps something
related to your company or team).
- Browser support for more non-Explorer default browsers.
- Bug fixed where current.xyz sometimes wrongly deleted.

Mac GUI specific:
- Link to MyFolding page incorporated in menu.

* Items with an asterisk require FahCore_78.exe v. 1.53 to be functional -- certain
work servers are already forcing downloads of this core.
