If you hadn't already noticed Stanford have decided to overhaul the stats page and cache some of them. Here is a list of when each page is updated. Also if you are using Buzzard's Stats Grabber you would have noticed that your individual score doesn't update every hour that's because of the changes below.
Note:The Stats search page updates one hour later than other pages. In the stats status column above "current" means when they do update the stats are the latest available.
The last few days has seen the [H]orde pull out a big lead (bigger than what we have been used to lately) mainly due to their team deciding to concentrate on the folding side of things instead of fragmenting their resources into too many areas. It seems that Kyle the FrgMstr over at the [H]ardOCP website is under the impression that FAH2 has finished and wants everyone to jump on the FAH3 bandwagon. That's good while they are doing that we can retake the FAH2 crown back. Also they aren't to concerned about who leads who as long as the research is getting done. I agree with that except I am concerned about who leads who and in the mean time the research is getting done quicker. So fold on everyone and lets get the lead back in this old project we are doing and leave the new one to the [H]orde. There are some changes going on again
with our Folding teams. We are
still #1 in the world for both Folding 1 and
Folding 2 programs! Congrats to all
who have made this a reality. Still things always change and it seems that to continue on to do the best good we can, we will be moving to the new Folding 3 project immediately. Here is a message from team leader relic! FrgMstr support, a majority team vote, and unanimous agreement
of the [H]ardfolding council. Switch you boxen to F@H3 where ever
and when ever you can. Those that can not use the F@H3 client due to
nonet requirements or corporate installations might try our
secondary project, UD. If at all possible, get some boxen folding.
So yes with this we are going to give up our current shared dominance in F@H2, but it seems more important to move forward with the research than to worry about who leads who. We will remind you of this several times in the upcoming week and more information will be posted over at the [H]ardFolding website.
In the last few days we have had eight new proteins to play with. The "A" type proteins aren't listed on the summary page any more so I guess they maybe phasing them out soon.
A little bit more info on the Genome work units that we have been getting lately. That issue should hopefully be fixed going by this from the Stanford guys... On another note, we have servers now such that if your team number is sub 100,000 and you choose the F@H preference in configuration, you should not have any chance of being assigned to a Core_78 (Genome) work server.
The Milestone Clubs have been updated. |

Surprise surprise we out scored the [H]orde yesterday to the tune of 181 points, perhaps the server outage had a bit to do with it but a gain is a gain and we will take it as it come. Hopefully we can improve on this during the day and keep it under 1000 when tomorrow comes.
The data servers had a bit of a hiccup this morning which most you would have already realised. Server 112 and 117 wasn't accepting or sending out any work, Vijay rebooted them and all was well again at approx 08:00 WST. One good feature the newer clients have is "autosend" where you don't have to wait till the new protein has finished before you send off the unsent ones. |

Buzzard has a new version out for his Stats Grabber version 0.7 and a Mass Stats Grabber. I
have recently written a new program, F@H Mass Stats Grabber. It also
gets F@H stats, but is based on scripts. |

After reading a thread in the Pub section of our forums today and seeing that some people think that many of us have no idea of what this project is all about. I decided to start an education program to get our members up to speed on just what we are all about. Lesson one is about proteins and why they fold and the Folding@Home project. Having said that we all folding for various reasons and that's fine just as long as you know what you are doing and why this project exists. A better understanding leads to a better educated folder who then becomes an ambassador for the project, who can hopefully spread the word about what we are all doing here so that we can grow and help this project reach its goal a lot quicker.
The GameDude offer of a $10 discount off a XP processor is still running so get in quick before they run out.
Would you like to win a Alpha PAL8045 cooler and a couple of case fans? Well then here is your chance, they are this weeks prizes in the Folding Giveaway. Just nominate yourself in this thread and produce 5 points before next Monday at 07:00 WST and you are in with a chance.

The Milestone Clubs have been updated.
A reminder from Kosh_(B5lurker) to those members out there using FireDaemon to regularly check your when your beta version expires after he got caught out when his folding machines stopped crunching for 3 days recently. The first round of Giveaway updates has been done. |

Friday 19/07/02 |

Stanford have put up a page with information about the console and its commands .... The console version (originally quite simple in use) has gotten more complicated as we've added features. We've added some info about how to use it at http://folding.stanford.edu/console-userguide.txt. -local: Use "-local" only if you are planning on running more than one instance of Folding@Home on the same machine (this is only useful if you are running on a multi-processor machine). Create as many directories as there are processors on the machine, copy the exe files and client.cfg file into each of these directories, run "FAH3Console -local -config" on each and specify unique machine IDs for each directory (under the Advanced Settings option). From then onwards you may run each copy by switching to its directory and running with the -local flag.
The second round of Giveaway updates has been done. |

A big welcome to Lombers who has just had the operation on his frontal lobe and has been fitted out with a steel vest so that he can take up his new roll as admin of the Distributed Computing forum. Its a tough job but with his new modifications I'm sure he can cope with it.
This morning we hit the 950 mark for active members which is the highest we have ever achieved and a good barometer on the health of our team. Hopefully we can build on this number in the coming weeks and give the [H]orde another challenge for top spot. With a little persistence and determination we can start to chip away at the gap between our teams, its not like we have dropped production at all its just that the [H]orde decided to concentrate on Folding and a lot of their members who did other DC projects switched to FAH and well you know the rest. So its heads down and fold like mad for a while till we once again can issue a challenge.
xylus has just sent through his Top 500 stats report for this week. An interesting fact was discovered in the updating of the Top 500 is that 81 members or 16.2% were AWOL last week and 70 members or 14% haven't produced in the last 2 weeks. So it looks like the newer members of the team are showing the way to some of our old timers, I guess those non producers wont be in the top 500 for very long.
There is just 12hrs left till the close of week 9 of the Giveaway and that means just 12hrs to make sure that you have your 5 points done and eligibility in the draw tomorrow. The draw will be tomorrow night at around 21:00 WST, unfortunately due to work commitments.
The Team Weekly page has been updated. |

Another surprise today was the release of the beta version of 3.11 client. Here is the post from the Folding-community forums. You can download it from here. You can
download a beta 3.11 version of the Windows or Linux client from the
beta3 section (folding.stanford.edu/beta3/) if you want to try it
out. The changes from 3.1 are:
The Gromacs core has now been released for the windows clients. So if you see something strange going on this could be the reason.
Stanford have chucked another curly one at us today with the release of the latest set of proteins. They have named two of the proteins the same, project 145 and project 146 are both called p145_1L2Yunf. Project 145 has a credit 0.6 points and a deadline of 4 days and project 146 has a credit of 6 points and a 20 day turn around. Has of 22:00 WST no one has returned a 146 yet so we aren't certain that the correct points will be allocated. Stay tuned.
Well here we go with week 10 of the Folding Giveaway, unfortunately this is the last week but we have saved the best till last and thanks to Computer Alliance who have been box sitting for the past 10 weeks this great prize. All you have to do is (if you haven't already) nominate yourself in this thread and produce 5 points before 07:00 WST on Monday and you will be in the draw for a chance to win it. For those dedicated members that were folding before the Giveaway was announced they will receive a bonus number in the draw. Kt7 Motherboard .

With the Giveaway and the rules surrounding the Grand prize. It has been decided to allow all numbers gained during the 10 weeks to count towards the draw for the Folding Box. The rules stated that you had to have been active and produced 5 points for every week after you had entered the Giveaway to be eligible for the grand prize, miss a week and you would have missed out. The bonus number still stands for members that were folding at the time of the Giveaway announcement providing that you have got all ten numbers.
The situation of the proteins with the same name from yesterday is a little clearer today with project 146 proteins being confirmed as worth 6 points. yea, sorry.
P146 got labeled as P145's. P146 is 6 points and takes 10x longer
than P145 (0.6 points). Other than the labeling on the .xyz file
(which doesn't have any internal meaning -- it's just there for
people to see which WU they get), there is no problem. Sorry for the
mix up. |

Well I have been at the Milestone Clubs again, I have streamlined things a bit and have incorporated Microsoft Access into the process of updating them. It all starts with a copy and paste from the web page to Excel then import it to Access and pull out all the Club reports and export them to Front Page and upload them to the server. |

A pleasant surprise for those people with 11 numbers in the Giveaway, one of our members has donated a Duron 750 CPU (good for 900Mhz) to be given away this week. Thank you very much Falls that's a nice gesture and one that will be greatly appreciated by the winner. |

GameDude's discount of a $10 discount is still running and there is still quite a few left. So if you want one let me know and I will give you the top secret code which you will pass on the GameDude when you order.
If you are having any trouble scrolling through the pages of the Milestone clubs let know.
If you had any points missing in the last week it may have been related to the GNRA proteins and server 110. Vijay has made a few adjustments and hopefully things will be ok from now on. Thanks to looktall for the link.
Well the Folding
Giveaway is over and I think it was a great success and did what it
was designed to do. That is attract new members by making more
people aware of our team and the Folding cause. Also to give some
reward to the dedicated people we have folding for us.
