Tinker Time: Interesting results found.

Stanford have found something interesting in the returned work for projects p638_L939_K12M_ext and p639_L939_K12M_nat. Which is good news and sounds promising, we are slowing chipping away and getting some good results for our hard work.

We found an interesting result on the Tinker side of FAH and we'll be running some more Tinkers to double check/investigate further/get more statistics.
I know people like Gros better, but this is important for us. We'll throttle up more Gros soon (hopefully next day or two).
Vijay

ChangeThis: Whoops I should have changed the username
If you are using DG's script to rollout a the FAH client to multiple machines you may want to check your configs. Because the default username ChangeThis has managed to break into the 375 Club this week. Forum thread is here.

BEAT the BOX Giveaway: FBOX on fire.

The BEAT the BOX nomination page has been updated with the Giveaway draw numbers.

FBOX1 has had 2 of the super fast 910 wu's and right now it has a new quicky a p911_vill_0 at 60 points. So far this week it has pumped out 301 points that means you lot will have to work harder to beat it.

Statometer : Its a matter of scale

I had to adjust the scales on quite a few bars on both sides of the Flogometer® section because of our unprecedented production surge. Who would have thought that we would be outscoring the [H]orde by over 25,000 points a day. We are knocking big chunks off their lead everyday and the days to No1 are reducing rapidly, as of this morning we had 135 days to go which makes it the 22nd of November. So all that remains is for the one remaining red bar to shrink bit by bit until finally it turns green to match the rest of them.

This recent increase in output is not all attributed to the two big guys upfront, it is everyone that is contributing to the teams performance and the "engine room" is responsible for the majority of the points done each day. Below is a list of all the OCAU team members that have ramped up their production in the past week and managed to reach a new club level. Even if you haven't made it to the next level its your continued support and effort that has got us to where we are today. Its a team effort and the team shares the glory.

Attack of the killer Grannys: Stats are back

After almost a day without a stats fix they are back and ready for your perusing pleasure. Apparently a granny (NaN actually: Not a Number) wandered into a few teams pages and caused havoc with the stats database. Vijay and co went granny hunting and found them hiding in quite a few teams stats pages, some were a bit stubborn and needed coaxing out with a cup of hot Milo and the promise of a game of bingo. Anyway the geriatric points corruptors has been put to bed and all is well.

We found and fixed the stats NaN issue so no more will be created (and yes, as suspected, it has to do w/the partial credit). No more NaNs should be created (and even if they are, the stats system should handle them now).
Now, we need to simply purge/fix the NaNs which have worked their way into the stats db. That is still on going.

------

ok, this should be fixed. It turns out that getting NaNs out of mysql isn't that easy, but it's done. Good thing we have multiple ways of backing up the stats data ...

OCAU F@H channel: Fold and chat
l00b3r would like everyone to know that there is a FAH mIRC channel for you to hang out in and have a chat with your folding buddies. Server: waix.oz.org Chan: #FAH., the link is here.

New Folding Page: Quicker Better
At last a new Folding page that doesn't take forever to load up. It has a new Statsbar with the Statometer built in, it even has an off button to, it is off by default to speed up the load time. All the other features of the previous Statsbar are included in the new one.

There is a new chart that has been added to the Statometer, this shows the daily gain/loss to the [H]orde over the past 30 days.

BEAT the BOX: The winner is

The winner of the very first FBOX is

Looney (1768)

Congratulations Looney.

Send me a PM and we can sort out delivery of a very nice Folding Machine.

BEAT the BOX 2 starts next Monday the 21st of July. This time it will be a bit easier to beat...

FBOX Donation: Out of the blue
We had a surprise visit from acr yesterday in the forums. If you remember back to Giveaway3 acr (Paul) had promised a XP2100+ CPU has a prize for the giveaway but when the time came to finalise the prize list acr could not be contacted and so no prize. This brought about the creation of the FBOX collection. Anyway acr dropped in yesterday and here is what he had to say...

just to get myself in a little bit of trouble....
i promised a few months ago to Bollocks that i would supply an XP2100B cpu to the folding competition. I believe that there may have been some mention of it in this thread somewhere.
Anyhow just to clarify things, my business almost went bankrupt due to a few deals going sour (about 10-15K's worth). My phone was cut off and i was unable to do business basically. So here i am apologising to those of you who held me to my word... i am working for a transport company now and in the process of rebuilding slowly with my new experience behind me.

I would however like to honour my gift to a comp. (which ever Bollocks deems appropriate)..

just sorry once again to those who it affected
FOLD ON!

We now have a XP2100B CPU for the next FBOX which will go nicely with the motherboard that deranged128 is going to send our way. Thanks Paul its good to see things have worked out ok for you.

FBOX update: F6, F7 and F8 are complete and folding away nicely.

BEAT the BOX: Looney by name...
The winner of the inaugural BEAT the BOX giveaway, Looney has kindly covered the cost of postage and has also made a generous donation to the FBOX Foundation Fund as well. Now that is a great gesture and shows the type of team spirit and generosity that lives under the Overclockers Australia Folding@home Team banner. Well done mate and you definitely aren't Looney by nature. FBOX1 will be in the post by lunch time today and on its way to Victoria.

BEAT the BOX: Round 2
Tomorrow at 7am WST Round 2 of BEAT the BOX begins. FBOX2 will be an easy beat for most people, it produces around the 200 PPW mark. The first photo below shows FBOX2 with FBOX3,7 and 8, the cases are what DG brought over last weekend. I have updated the BEAT the BOX page for Round 2.

New Folding Clubs:
The dynamic duo (DG and plext) have set new records for PPW and required a new group of Clubs being made up. Finally I have caught up with them and the Folding Club page has been updated accordingly. Well done guys, its hard work keeping up will both of you. But I don't mind one bit.

75K race: New combatants.
A new gauntlet is under way this morning between ArmidaleLAN.com, BallBag and Silicon Wars - a New Hope to see who can reach 75,000 points first.

BEAT the BOX: Round 2
Away we go.

Just a reminder that the winner of the FBOX must agree to this pledge...

The winner must pledge to run the FBOX 24/7. The reason being that the donations were made so that the Folding cause and the Overclockers Australia Folding team would benefit from everyone pooling there unused parts to make up these FBOX's. Therefore we need a commitment from the winner that this will happen...

Some of the members (about 14) that have signed up for the BEAT the BOX giveaway actually stopped folding in the past week or produced less than 50 points. As stated on the BEAT the BOX page this giveaway is for the "dedicated" folder and doesn't suit everyone. I have removed a few names by request from those that will not be able to honour the pledge or haven't produced any points since nominating.

Electron Microscope III v2.4.1:(Update)
Updated Genome Calc
If you do Genome only and have a Genome team number, i.e. a team number greater than 100000, the formula to calculate your points has been changed. EM should now display a point value close to what Stanford calculates. Because the points are calculated by different systems with different OS's, the points EM displays may not be exactly what you get, but it should be close.

Bar Graph Display
As you scroll through the different windows in the options menu, if you have data saved, EM can display a bar graph of your data. EM was trying to display the data when the window was displayed and this works fine as long as the data file isn't too large. Once the file gets large, it takes more time for EM to display the data and you can't just move on to the next page without waiting. Now you have to push a button to display the bar graph. This allows you to move instantly from one page to the next without a delay.

Generate Stats according to IP
When generating HTML stats, you can now choose Server IP instead of All Proteins or a particular protein. This will allow you to track what proteins you have done by any IP number used by Stanford. The default IP is 000 and you need to enter a number when you want to use this feature. Once you enter the IP number, you can then choose the box or all the boxes. Then, choose Server IP from the Protein / Item list. Press Make HTML and the HTML page will be generated with only the IP number you entered. The last 3 numbers in the Server IP address are the only numbers you need to enter.

Enjoy!

EM-DC.COM
Larry the author of our favourite FAH monitoring software EM3 has decided to set up his own Folding team. This was done to remove the possibility of a conflict of interest by being on the [H]ardOCP team. Good luck Larry we all wish you well.

I decided that the EM-DC.COM web site needed a F@H team named for it. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join. Points are fun, but science is the reason. For me, being a member of any F@H team causes a mild conflict of interest. This way, I have no real conflicts and I can still contribute to my favorite project, F@H, and I can remain neutral.

Movie trivia:

Can you guess what movie this quote comes from...

"Tell them, that FBox 1 has arrived safely in the new land, and it's CPU welled with tears"

If you can then Looney will donated another $50 to the FBOX Foundation fund to add to the $100 he has already donated. If you know the answer then post in this thread with the original words from the movie.

FBOX1 landed at Looney's place on Monday and is now crunching away for its new owner.

New Members: Welcome to the team.

Thanks to the News post by Agg last week we have had a large influx of new members. We have had 65 new recruits join the team to help us beat the enemy, no not [H]. The enemy is the dreadful diseases we are all helping to try find a cure for. Welcome everyone we hope you settle in for the long haul because we are going to need your cycles for a long time to come.

Statometer: A flogging on the left and a flogging on the right.
We are now giving both teams a good old flogging like never before. We have hit the 100k mark once again for our daily output. Which has resulted in the [H] losing ground at 30k a day and we have just about doubled oc.com daily score as well. The thin orange bars on the charts represent the peak score for each section and as you can see they are all peaked. Except for the red bar which is shrinking every day, we have just 56 more days to go now till the #1 Folding team title comes home to roost once more.

Movie trivia: Tougher than we first thought.
A little clue from Looney to help us out a bit. The thread is here.

"It is from a huge movie that was main stream but is considered both a chick flick and a medieval film......."

"If no one can come up with it by Saturday I will give a new clue as to the origins."

New Folding Affiliate: Helping badg3er climb up the ladder.
A big thanks to LADaMAX for letting badg3er install folding on the office computers and for letting him print out the FBOX labels.

News Flash: Upright religious types join Folding Team
The bizarre story of how a group of frustrated DFers banded together to form a subteam for one of the worlds leading Folding teams has just come to light. The ringleader of the is group goes by the name of cenuijmu and he is out to impress the Folding world with his unorthodox methods, hence the name Team_DF_Erect_Vicar. Quoted as saying "I know it is painful hallmar  but it'd be fun to have a busmans holiday and have another rude name, along with bollocks, on F@H." and "We'll be the talk of the town." goes to shows that he will stoop to never before seen tactics in an effort to further the folding cause.

This Folding cult group with their tenuous religious links have already started to spread their influence on unsuspecting individuals and if allowed to spread there influential diatribe freely without check who knows where they will end up. A quote from one of cenuijmu's henchmen, hallmar. says  "Better have the caps .. makes us seem more .. well .. sophisticated" goes to show that they are just out to hoodwink the general FAH community into believing that they are a high class operation hoping to fool unsuspecting souls looking to turn there idle time into something more productive.

After further investigation by our undercover reporter Teddy. It has be revealed that cenuijmu's has a dark side that many don't know about and the details have only just surfaced about his secret life away from the Folding spot light "... that crazy POM Andy who sits there with a coat on windows & doors fully open" , "he also runs around naked in the snow too ..." . These quotes only go to show that the Folding community has much to fear from this group and the world will not be the same.

Credits for "EARLY_UNIT_END " errors.
News from the Folding-Community about credit for partially completed WU's which was implemented with the release of the new Gromac core 1.49.

I wanted to comment on the current state of GROMACS partial credit and F@H stats. To our knowledge, the F@H stats system is back in tip-top shape and operating properly. In the latest GROMACS core release (1.49) we have enabled partial crediting for WU's that do not go to completion (this is not an issue for the more-stable Tinker WU's, which do not suffer from unexpected EARLY_UNIT_END errors). Partial credit awarded is based on the number of calculations that were successfully completed (ie. if you finish 25% of the WU, you get 25% of the points). If you are not currently using the 1.49 core you can delete your current core and allow the client to auto-download version 1.49.

Some folders have stated recently that they are not getting full credit for their work, based on the number of WU's they've completed vs. the number of points they've received. However, the number of WU's that show up in a user's stats include the number for which they received partial credit. With this in mind, please don't base your expected number of points on the number of WU's for which you have been credited ... If you were credited with 5 WU's in a given period, this only means that you received partial-to-full credit for those 5 WU's, *not* that all 5 were completed successfully. I hope this clarifies things a bit ...

BYO FBOXen update.
The cases and motherboards have been ordered from MAT. But we will need a few more donations before we can get the processors and RAM, many thanks to those members who are on their second round of donations.  The specs of the BYO FBOXes are below
  • Case: 3 x MAT 7788K ATX Midi Tower

  • Motherboard: 3 x GA-7VT600L from MAT

  • Processor: 3 x XP2400+ from ?

  • Memory: 3 x 256MB PC2700 from ?

  • HSF: 3 x Spire Falcon Rock II from LowNoise PC

  • Case fans: 3 x 80mm Papst 8412 from Adilam

  • HDD: 3 x Maxtor 8Gb from Zzapped

  • Video Card 1:  Matrox 8Mb from Zzapped

  • Video Card 2:GF2 MX400 from deranged128

  • Video Card 3: ASUS GF2 7700 from afrank

These machines will be given away to those that have donated money to the FFF. The winners will be selected by a random draw by the usual method after being assigned a number. If you want to be included or excluded from the draw for a BYO FBOX let me know in this thread. We are just waiting on these FFF donators below to respond.

Smash3D, Invictus.

FBOX page updated.
The FBOX page has been updated with the addition of FBOX9. This is the fastest FBOX so far and is powered by a Teddy donated XP2400 and ASUS A7V8X and 256 MB of PC2700 from mike_wp. Add in a GF2 MX400 from Pyro and a 1.6G HDD donated from afrank and you have a mean folding machine capable of hitting a century every time. Hence the name Bradman, all that is missing is a case and Bradman can come to the crease and start belting sixes for the team.

We also have 3 orphaned CPU's waiting for a home. We need a motherboard and accessories for a XP1800+ and 2 Duron 1300's. If you can help drop into the FBOX thread and let us know.

New stats page.
Dyyryath from the Free-DC team has started doing Folding@home stats for our stats perusing pleasure. The forum thread is here and the links to the teams page and OCAU page have been added to the Stats links on this page. With these stats you can even make custom graphs with the Multi Team Graphs generator page, like this one. Nice one Dyyryath.

I've been doing stats for Distributed Folding for some time. Over the last several months, I've gotten a TON of requests for Folding@Home support. It's taken me awhile, but I finally got the free time to add F@H, so I thought now that it was live I'd let anyone here who might be interested know they were available.

You can find the home page right here:

New Gromacs core 1.49 works a treat.
I was doing a little bit of overclocking today on a client with the new 1.49 core and it didn't like the speed that I had set it to. Bugger I thought there is 52 frames down the drain on a 29.4 pointer. It turned out ok because at the next Stanford update there was an extra 15 points added to my total. Not sure if the same thing happens when the check sums don't match but I will find out in due course no doubt.
