News Flash: If you are using any of the early FAH3 betas you can expect trouble today sometime soon if not already. Because today they will expire and your folding will stop or not restart after shutting down. You will need to download beta3 and replace the current beta 1 or 2. Start it with the -local switch ( "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home3\FAH3Console-beta3.exe" -local) so that it reads the userid in the local directory and then it will start from where you left off.
The Giveaway week 3 nominations lists have been updated. Also I have added some more photos of the weekly prizes.

We now have less than 100 hours to go to the No1 position. Yesterday we closed the gap by 684 points with a days total output of 4428 points. All this work is being done with quite a few of our top performers missing, so well done team the reward is just a few hours away. Welcome to the nine newcomers to the team. |

Here we have a few dedication awards for our dedicated folding members.
DGROMS.com: For going the extra mile to help the team regain the Folding Grail.
Norgs: For helping put the Overclockers Australia Folding team on top with FAH2. A man with just a few machines.
zzsstt: The quite achiever who never fails to deliver and has been the mainstay of our Folding efforts since the early days of FAH1.
The gap between ourselves and the [H] team has now dropped to less than 600 points (19:00 WST) so all things being equal we should be in first place sometime tomorrow. Well done team, maybe tonight is one of those nights when the computer doesn't get turned off if you don't run 24/7 and we will be celebrating that bit earlier if we can leave it running tonight.
The Giveaway lists have been updated and we now have 537 eligible for this week out of 641 nominations.
The Milestone Club has had a work over and now follows the Folding club format.

Today server 112 had a problem and Stanford shut it down for a while and as a result a lot of people have got completed work units left in their Work folder. Seeing that the stats have dropped off today a fair bit perhaps we should all check our Work folders for any unsent work. To send these WU's back you should stop and restart the client and the unsent work will be uploaded.
The Giveaway Nominations and the Milestones have been updated.

Wilbur is suffering from worm burn and needs to break out soon or he will have WBS (Worm Burnout Syndrome). We now are 721 points behind but during yesterday we closed the gap to less than 500 points and for some reason we lost ground over night. Lets hope tomorrow brings us the news we all want to see and give the poor worm a rest. |

Well folks we have only 43 points to go at 20:00 WST and we will be No1. We should knock that off in the next few hours.
You have less than 12Hrs to get your 5 points up to be eligible for week 3 of the giveaway. The lists have been updated to 19:00 WST.
EazyduzIt: For folding under trying conditions and persevering where many would give in and besides all that EazyduzIt is a SETI cruncher at heart and he has put all his resources into helping the Folding team ahead of his first love. Now that's dedication when a person can put the team (and not his first choice team) in front of any personal gain, well done Eazy.

Just when the finish line was in sight Stanford goes and has a problem with one of their servers and a lot of work cant be returned or doesn't show up. Anyway we inched a little bit closer yesterday and we now have 524 points to go, hopefully today is the day. We passed the 500,000 point milestone overnight which is a great achievement by all, well done team. |

Well done everyone you are now the No1 Folding Team in the world as of 16:00 WST. Wilbur has gone on vacation and is relaxing in the sun after all that hard work especially over the last 3 days. The [H]orde put up a good fight and made us work for it, but we got there after a few stumbles. There is no time to relax we need to consolidate all that hard work and maintain our output otherwise we will be right back where we started from.
And the winner of Giveaway Week 3 is....
Fusion75 (3583) Congratulations to Fusion75 give me a PM and then we can arrange delivery. You have won these prizes. The Giveaway nomination lists have been updated.
Looks like we have a new protein to crunch along with a new client. Its called a GAAA tetraloop and is worth 2 points with a six day return deadline.
Finally version 3 of the Folding@Home client has been released and is available here. This is the thread from the forums concerned with the new release, also a new core 2.47 has been released but I'm not sure everyone gets it when they upgrade to the new version. "The 3.0 version of the client is now final, and can be found on the download page. This client is essentially 3.0b5 without the kill switch. Thanks to all the beta testers who helped us shake it out. There are numerous benefits to the new client, including many bug fixes. In particular, the new client also allows use of port80 so we should be able to go through a lot more firewalls." Also the Gromacs core has been released externally in a limited release... Guha has finished the Gromacs core port to windows and we're now testing both the Win and Lin Grocores. A few people may see them show up. On the windows side, the GUI stuff is not complete. You see a picture of the protein as its folding, but the name is fixed to "Gromacs" and the fraction completed is not up and going yet. We want to do some more testing of the science and finish these last few aesthetic things and then we'll roll it out in greater numbers. and while we are on a roll with Stanford announcements this little snippet about the assignment server... "We've modified the assignment server to do a better job of rotating users off from servers which are down. Hopefully that should help."

The Giveaway lists have been updated.
The Milestone Clubs have been updated.
The [H]ardOCP team are throwing down the challenge and have closed the gap by 290 points in the last 24 hours. They have ramped up quite considerably in the last few days and are now a threat to retake the No1 position. We need to make sure we do all we can to hold are place at the top. It took a lot of hard work to get there so lets make it even harder for the [H]orde to retake from us.
With the new FAH3 clients that were released yesterday folks are having different success rates of converting currently Work Units to the new exe. I would suggest that if you don't want to take the risk of losing your work wait till you have finished the WU and do a fresh install. Best to play it safe than lose a few hours crunch time.
The GameDude offer of $10 discount off a AMD Athlon XP processor is still running so if you intend on buy a processor soon take advantage of this offer and support the vendors that are supporting you. Contact me if you intend on buying one and I will let you know how to get your discount.

A little bit of publicity from James Bourne the person that wrote Lombers favourite program FireDaemon, thanks James.
The Giveaway lists have been updated.
With the Giveaway tomorrow the winner will be announced later in the day, much later in fact. Work comes before play and unfortunately I have to work days tomorrow so the winner will be announced at approximately 21:00 WST. I hope you can hang on till then.
Now let me tell you about a humorous happening yesterday concerning a certain member called "ChangeThis" who was romping up the stats at a great rate. You beauty we all thought a new member with access to a great amount of boxen has come to help us stay #1 and keep the [H]orde at bay. "Who could it be" and "look out DGROMS.com" we all said, "He she or they can come and get me if they wish, all the more points the better. Good thing is I have a 10,000 point head start. Don't forget I am also getting 80 new machines very soon to make the output heaps higher, so bring it on" replied DG. Then five minutes later "Bollocks, it just dawned on me. The client.cfg I put in the remoteservice.zip I posted to you had the name changethis in it. Have you given that to anyone as this will be the person/persons with the extra output. Better warn them." But I hadn't given the remote install to anyone yet so it was me and another nine minutes elapsed then this "Sorry about the language but F#&K F@&K F*%K, all my machines have got the wrong config, I stuffed up last night after I updated to Version 3 Final and copied the wrong client.cfg into my upgrade hosting dir for the upgrade. S@#t got to go got some fixing to do". Poor DG, here is the full story from the forums. Anyway if you require the remote service install that David wrote here it is.
Well things are certainly getting tight in the race with the [H]orde, the difference was 259 points this morning and now at 18:00 WST the gap is 344 points. We had better put a spurt on tonight or else we could wake up tomorrow with a headache. |

Well we made it back in front and what a good days production we have had so far. At 21:00 WST we had a lead of 391 points, which means we have out scored the [H] by 440 points since 07:00 this morning. Well done everyone but we must maintain this hard work over night otherwise we will find ourselves in the same situation tomorrow. Have a good nights folding.
This week you are all folding for this great prize. Folding Box No1 1x Duron 800mhz.[GameDude]1x Shuttle MK20N motherboard (all in one VGA, sound, LAN) [GameDude] 1x 128Mb SDRam. [GadgetMan] 1x Floppy Drive. [GadgetMan] 1x Vantech cooler HSF combo. [GameDude] 1 x 810 Mb HDD. 1 x Midi Tower Case 300 Watt Power Supply. 1 x Sunon 80mm Case Fan [CoolPC]
And the winner of Giveaway Week 4 is....
Czechmate : EC (4201) Congratulations to Czechmate give me a PM and then we can arrange delivery. You have won these prizes. Let me know which cooler you want. 1 x Below Zero Cougar (P4) with Sunon 7000rpm fan or Below Zero Puma2 HSF AMD.* [Below Zero] 1x 5 1/4 device with front panel USB and Audio in/out and internal speaker system. [GameDude]1x Zalman fb123 cooling 9cm fan and mount. [GameDude] 1 x Sunon 80mm Case Fan [CoolPC] 1x 20 pack of laser CDR media spindle. [GameDude] * (winner to choose) Many thanks to last weeks sponsors.
Ouch my head hurts. We just lost the lead at 05:00 WST hopefully we can reclaim it back during the daylight hours.
Remember no Giveaway winner announcement till later tonight.

Here is a nifty little program made by Buzzard that gets the stats for our team and the [H] team and compares the difference and it also gets your individual scores as well. Grab it here f@h Stats.zip nice one Buzzard, I'm sure we can build on that and make it something special.
Things are certainly getting interesting in the race to be the No1 folding team. We seem to be able to gain a lead during the daytime and the [H] take it back when we go to sleep. Having the stats go belly up at Stanford last night till this morning didn't help things either and they still seem a little bit slow now (22:00 WST) in the updating department. Anyway we seem to have a lot of new members in the past day or two and hopefully with their help we can claw our way back to regaining and keeping the top spot. |

The Giveaway nominations lists have been updated with figures from earlier today. I have also broken down the list some more to reduce the size of the pages. Already we have 484 members eligible out of 714 nominations. The Folding Box prize has attracted quite a few more members to the fold and we have had over 30 new nominations since yesterday, I don't blame them either its a nice prize.
We have just past the 2000 member mark this evening, welcome to all the new folders pull up a chair and make yourselves comfortable and enjoy the ride.
Update: The stats are back and we lead by 291 points at 14:00 WST. The stats are on strike again, they haven't updated for a few hours now (13:00WST).
What a great days production by our team and the [H] team (helped by the stats being down for a while and a big dump when they came back). When you take the last two days production of 11305 points and average it you get 5652 points for both days that is some sort of record with the [H]orde not that far behind. Well done team its good to see that we can respond when we are challenged and of course all the extra work we do takes us a few steps closer to our goal of finding cures for a lot of things that afflicts mankind. "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

This is a reminder of what we are ultimately all here for and what all those hours of crunching proteins are aiming to do, this was written by fxr91 and posted in the forums today. I know I am
not even close to the caliber of
relic[H] but I just had to put this on paper as I just
found out my Mum has cancer for the second time. Last time was
breast, this time it is uterine. Bear with me please, this is from
the heart...
The Milestone Clubs have been updated.
This story of How Not To Build A DC Box is by relic of the [H] team will bring a grin to your face, its a classic.
I have had a request
from pythagoras (a admin over at the Folding-community Forums) for
more of us to register over there.
We seem to be just hanging in there with the [H]orde today and we have just managed to increase the lead to 323 points in the last two hours after being around the 200 mark most of the day, hopefully we can improve on this during the evening. |
|
Friday 21/06/02 |
|
The [H] have thrown down the gauntlet and have not relinquished the lead today after taking it during the night. They have increased their output sufficiently to hold us off during our day time, the difference between us is about 400 points a day at present. Lets look back a few weeks to when the Giveaway was announced. When
the Giveaway was announced the [H]orde were doing 21000 points a
week and we were doing 20000 a week. Now 7 weeks later the [H]orde
are up to 37500 points a week and we are 37000 points a week. No
doubt there is still some more ramping to do and I would say in a
few days we could possibly have double our outputs since the
Giveaway announcement. That is a awesome effort from both teams. This increase
in the work rate has great benefits for all and is speeding up the
process considerably. I'm sure Vijay and the gang back at the Pande
group are appreciative of all our efforts.
The Giveaway has been updated. |

Buzzard has released a new version of his Stats Grabber, download it from here. Its a great accessory and makes life a lot easier for checking the stats.
We seem to be just hanging in there on yesterdays figures with a loss of only 210 points for the day. The [H]orde managed to crack the 6000 points barrier which is fairly good going considering 4000 points a day not long ago was thought to be a nice days work. We aren't that far behind at 5800 points, so with a few more members coming through the gate and more boxen coming on line we should hopefully close the gap a bit more tomorrow.
The Top 20 has been updated |

Less than 12 hours to go to get your nomination and points in for the Giveaway. The Lists have been update to 20:00 WST. Look out for the winner of this weeks prize around 08:00 WST tomorrow.
On the folding front we seem to have knocked off a few points today (at 07:00 WST 574 points to 19:00 WST 349 points ) but the stats are varying quiet dramatically from one update to the next. In the past 24hrs we have lost only 120 points to the [H]orde which isn't to bad and hopefully we can reduce that gap and start to gain on them.
The Folding Clubs have had a bit of a overhaul with more clubs added. Now starting from the 25 Club and includes extra clubs to shorten the gap between promotions. Also the colour's have been redone, the the ugly brown colour has been replaced with a nice lime green. All this means a lot of new members into the Club system and a lot of work for me, so it will your responsibility to let me know if you are in the wrong club or have just reached a new level. PM or email me to set things straight.
A new version of Stats Grabber is out (v0.6)
Version 0.6 fixes some bugs and add some features. However consider
it a beta, as it may still have some bugs (Esp. with custom teams)
The Milestone Clubs have been updated.
The Giveaway nominations were update with last night. Just one more day to go to get your five points in and your nomination into this thread if you want a chance to win a Duron 800 Folding Box. I have had it Folding for a while now and its good for about 30 points a week.
Team Weekly has been updated with the last two weeks numbers. |

With the Folding Clubs, Darkness is in the process of making some new badges for you all to wear. Here is a sneak preview.
The Milestone Clubs have been updated and I have been through every name in every club and hopefully you are all in the right clubs. They were updated using stats from a few hours ago, so if you have moved up a club since then you will have to wait till the next up date. Also the colour scheme has changed a little bit, just to spruce them up and give them cleaner look.
Now on with the show, this is what you lot are folding for this week. Proudly sponsored by these vendors, pay them a visit and show them that the Overclockers Australia Folding community appreciates their generosity by making your next computer purchase at one of these companies. 1 x Below Zero Cougar (P4) with Sunon 7000rpm fan. [Below Zero] 1 x Papst 80mm fan 8412N. [Adilam] 1 x Sunon 80mm Case Fan [CoolPC] 1x Scroll Mouse and mat. [GadgetMan] 1x Omni b-55 USB powered speakers. [GameDude] Bonus Consolation Prize 1 X Cherry keyboard [Adilam]
Look at that we managed to out score the [H]orde yesterday and close the gap to 509 points this morning. That was a great days folding by everyone and take a bow for that was a record 24 hrs production by any Folding@Home team (not counting stats glitches). Today we have managed to lower that gap to 293 points at 21:00 WST. We are gradually closing the gap and we shouldn't have long to wait before.... well you know what.
And the winner of Giveaway Week 5 is....
swipe: (5311) Congratulations to swipe give me a PM and then we can arrange delivery. Folding Box No1 1x Duron 800mhz.[GameDude]1x Shuttle MK20N motherboard (all in one VGA, sound, LAN) [GameDude] 1x 128Mb SDRam. [GadgetMan] 1x Floppy Drive. [GadgetMan] 1x Vantech cooler HSF combo. Congratulations goes out to Lombers the person that started all this folding stuff happening here at Overclockers Australia for he has become the second admin in the DC forum alongside yours truly. So now we have an extra pair of eyes on the prowl to help you out and keep you from misbehaving.
The stats decided to play up at 07:00 WST this morning so the daily total is down a bit on what it should be. Never the less we still knocked a little bit off the [H]orde's lead for the second day running. Today has been a bit of a struggle and we haven't made any head way at all but hopefully this evening we can put together a few good updates and knock of a fair bit off that lead.
If you are using FAH3 and you are getting a backlog of unsent wu's that wont upload when the client is restarted run the client with a shortcut and add -queueinfo to the target line like this "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home3\FAH3Console.exe" -queueinfo" This will show you what work is finished and ready to go and also the current work unit you are working on. Loaded queue successfully. Next remove the -queueinfo switch and add -send 01
in its place and run it again and that unsent WU should be sent on
its way. Repeat for any other stubborn wu's still left. You can also
try -send all as well which should send all unsent wu's in one go.
Darkness has finished the Folding Club badges and are on display in there various club locations. You can wear this badge with pride in the forums as your avatar to show everyone how good you are at folding. Keep an eye out for some floating around already hey mutantaxe. Well done Darkness.
The first of many Giveaway nomination updates has been done. One our Giveaway sponsors Adilam has kindly donated four keyboards these will become consolation prizes for the next four weeks, thanks Peter and Adilam. |

We are No1 again. This happened at 22:00 WST with a lead of 60 points, keep up the good work overnight and hopefully extend our lead tomorrow. We have taken the No1 spot for the third time 2 weeks, this battle with the [H]orde has certainly inspired both teams to great things and as a result good deal more work for Stanford.
Have you checked the stats lately because if you haven't you are in for a big surprise after losing ground to the [H]orde yesterday we have had quite a few amazing stats updates in the last 4 to 5 hours. The gap is now (19:00 WST) 9 points that's right 9 points after being 523 points just 8 hours a go. That is great work from all of you out there, you can all be proud of what you have done in the past few days to turn this around and fight back and be this close to the No1 spot.
A bit of action and news from the Stanford mob regarding the next client update.
Announcement: Apparently the gurus at Stanford have been doing some testing with some GAH work units as plasticsurgeon found out this morning after uploading a completed wu he downloaded a Genome wu and a new core to process it. When the next client is released there will be options to choose which units you wish to process. But apparently you still get FAH credit even though you have just processed a GAH work unit. So if you see your client download a new core (FahCore_c9.exe) and start doing strange work units that's the reason why. Bare with the process until the new client has been released then you can choose to do Folding only units but still that is no guarantee if the FAH servers are down you may still end up doing a genome unit.
Update: Apparently you don't
get credit yet for any Genome work units if you are using the FAH
client pre beta6 as
frozenlyse just
found out. Stay tuned I'm sure there will be a lot more developments
regarding this in the near future. |

A bit late with today's update but anyway, just look at that output from Wednesday that is another lap record for a folding team, well done once again everybody. All that hard work has gotten us a bigger piece of the No1 position but we need to build on that so we hold the No1 spot over night and in to the next day which I'm sure is going to happen over the next few days.

We were 9 points down this morning which means we have a good base to start from for the day and not a lot of ground to cover before we have our nose in front. We have since taken the lead and stretched it to 466 points at 22:00 WST which should be enough of a buffer to see us through the night and still have the lead in the morning. One more thing we have worked hard this week and Statsman has given us the "Blue Line" as a reward, well done team, hopefully we can make this one stick. The active membership trend has seen the [H]orde peak after the last recruitment splurge from a bit of Kyle front page news and now they are dropping off in active members. At the last update they had dropped to 809 active from 818 this morning while we have added another 2 active members to take us to 925 and given another week we could be pushing the 1000 active member mark. All this activity is not purely due to the Giveaway because a lot of members that have joined the team recently haven't nominated for the Giveaway and nearly 100 members that have nominated aren't even folding anymore. We are attracting members from many places not just from the Forums and this augurs well for the future with our roots spreading far and wide and guaranteeing a steady influx of new members willing to help save humanity from many diseases and at the same time keep us the No1 Folding Team in the World.

No Top 20 PPW tonight Statsman has gone AWOL.
If you are still concerned about what work units you are receiving there is a beta client available here but it has an expiry date of the 5th of July so be careful not to forget that. This client allow you to choose what which type of work units you receive, to get Folding units only you need to set the client type to "1". The other types are 0 = no preference, 2 = GAH. [clienttype]
Here is a note from Vijay regarding the controversy over which work units people want to receive. There has been a lot of
feedback on this. Here's the quickie summary. Just a little side note it seems that Foldmonitor
refers to these Genome units "ATOM" in the History section.
We narrowly missed out on holding top spot this morning and we had a bit of a struggle to regain it during the day but at 19:00 WST we had a lead of 55 points. This wont be enough to hold the lead over night unless we have a bit of a surge later in the evening, this is going to be a titanic struggle to see who can claim first place as their own.
The Milestone Clubs have been updated.

You have less than 12 hrs to get your 5 points done if you haven't done so already for this weeks Giveaway. The winner we be announced between 08:00 and 09:00 WST tomorrow.
Thanks to Xylus the Top 500 page has been updated and he will be updating it from now on every Sunday.
Well what a turn around in the stats from pushing for the lead a couple of days ago we were 312 points behind this morning and it has got worse since. At 18:00 WST the gap had increased to 460 points, with our production down a fair bit I wonder if those Genome units are to blame. No matter what it is lets continue to do our very best and see what happens in the next few days. We have a few members beginning to turn in some big numbers like Toca who has been quiet lately and SaMaCo who if I remember correctly from a conversation I had a while ago has a few machines at his disposal. Also Sciby (pronounce Sky bee) will be looking in to getting his machines up and running again. So we have a bit more up our sleeves yet and who knows what next week will bring.
I have added a 375 Club to the Folding Clubs, to decrease the gap between the 250 Club and 500 Club. The colour for the 375 Club will be red and the 750 Club moves up to join the 1000 and 1500 clubs and changes from red to coral.
