FBOX Progress:

If you look to the left you will see a new FBOX section with the total points that the FBOX's have contributed since the first one started folding a couple of weeks ago. I will update the total daily when I do the stats usually in the morning. Also there are some FBOX icons to denote how many FBOX's that we have completed and partially completed. I will also make up a list of the ancillary stuff that the generous members out there have donated during the coming week.

Statometer :

Thanks to the ACME Electric Factory No2 for sending me a new skin for the Statometer, it has spruced it up a bit and given it a nice blue look.

4C contest : Update

The 4C is fast approaching the 1000 points mark with konnyaro holding a slight lead over donut for first place with WeeMan2 and pete_pumpkin not far behind.

Statometer: [H]orde fight back.

Well it looks like the [H]orde have turned up the wick and they have started to pull away from us again. We are still producing at record levels but they have called in the reinforcements to bolster their ranks and have started a fight back. Its going to be a long hard slog to peg them back again but we can do it.

Sunday 08/06/03

4C contest: A new Champion is crowned.

Well done to konnyaro for taking out Round 2 of the 4C Contest with the previous champion donut a close runnerup, pete_pumpkin slipped for third by just 3hrs from WeeMan2. The race isn't over just yet there is still 5th to be decided between Hemmerage and hendot. Well done to all the participants it was a great race despite a slight hiccup at the start.

Folders Anonymous.

If you feel the need to purge yourself of some pent up folding anxieties we have just the place for you thanks to B5lurker.

Here are a few snippits...

"My name is Lurks and I am a Folding Addict, I scrimp and save just so I can buy new hardware so I can fold faster, harder and longer...." B5lurker

"I also enjoy starving myself for several months just to afford to buy the latest hardware component for my computer...." Mute

"Eventually I moved on to FAH...the hard stuff. No more colors, just black and white text...not even moving text (unless you are willing to sit and watch for an hour or so, and I've done that too)...." Amran

"Within the short space of a few months, the addiction took hold. My phone bill has gone up, my power bill has skyrocketed, and my rumpus room now looks like a high-technology graveyard, with cases, racks, network cable, and entire bare computers laid out across every flat surface available....." Draffa

Giveaway Week5:

So you want a chance of winning a nice cooler and a few other goodies, well you had better get your 30 points in before tomorrow morning or you will miss out.

Statometer: [H]orde fight back.

The [H]orde now have the afterburners firing away and have out produced us by over 30,000 points for the past 7 days, making the [H] side of the Statometer very red indeed. Pity that because I was liking the green so much.

Stress your CPU to the MAX!

What is StressCPU?
This is a small windows program to torture-test your CPU in order to make sure that you don't have overheating problems. It will only run on SSE-equipped x86 CPUs, and it is executing a special version of the Gromacs inner loops that mixes SSE and normal assembly instructions to heat your CPU as much as possible.

The program was written by Erik Lindahl and I simply compiled it and am making it available to use.
This program actually makes my CPU's run from 4C-6C hotter than simply running Gromacs.
It's a good heat test and it should make any system draw maximum power which will also test the stability of your power supply.

Let me know if you have any issues.
You can get the program in the EM-DC download area.

Enjoy,
Larry

http://www.em-dc.com

Note:Even after testing this program for an extended period of time, it is no guarantee that you won't get a Gromacs work unit issue. It's a good test to make sure that your system is temperature and voltage stable so you have the best chance of not having an issue with the FAH Gromacs core.

Forum thread is here.

Giveaway3: The Final Week.

Its here, the final week of Giveaway3: Thunder Down Under. We started off with a bang and attracted many old and new members to the fold. We out scored the [H]orde for a couple of weeks, though they have made a move of their own to take back the blue line. Things are looking good to build on the base we have and move even further forward over the coming weeks. To finish off this Giveaway we have a great prize donated by a very generous person namely Falls. He has kindly gone out and bought a nice new 128Mb ATI Radeon 9700 Video Card to give away to some lucky folder out there. Falls is just one of the many unselfish people we have on our team that give more than is asked for to help make this the best folding there is. I would like to thank everyone that has given to this Giveaway, Stealthunit (Radiical Computing), leonard, Rod (LowNoise PC), Falls, ToranaGuy and Onyx. Your contributions are greatly appreciated by everyone and we all thank you very much.

On with the show, this week for your folding pleasure we have the following to Giveaway...

Electron Microscope v2.4.0 (Update) :

Double click tray icon
More Language Support
Skins listed in alphabetical order
Gromacs Time per Frame issue fixed

If you double click the EM tray icon, EM will hide or show itself depending on what state it is in when you double click the icon. If visible, it hides, if hidden, it becomes visible.

All windows in EM have been updated to support the current language file. When you switch to any languge but English, an asterisk (*) will appear in front of the words that need to be translated. If you want to translate those words and phrases, please feel free to do so. Then send me the modified language file so I can update it for everyone. I'm still looking for a full translation for Spanish and Russian. I would also be happy to add any other language you the user wants. Just translate the file to your language and send it to me in an email. I will then add the new language to the main distributed file. Most of the work needs to be done on page 6 of the options menu, the queue.dat file display menu, and the protein image right-click menu. Just look for the asterisk.

The skins listed in the skin menu are now in alphabetical order.

When EM monitored a Gromacs work unit and it finished, when the client downloaded the next work unit and it happened to be another Gromacs work unit, there tended to be a glitch in the way EM calculated the first frame. It would usually go very fast, then give an error alert because EM thought the time-per-frame was too long. After much testing that issue seems to be fixed.

Enjoy!

Stats Frozen:

It looks like the stats server is down and has been for quite a few hours. Its morning time now at Stanford so someone will come along soon and give it a kick start.

FBOX4: Is complete and ready.

I put together FBOX4 today and it is complete and ready to go. But the question is what do we do with it, do we sell it to buy stuff for future FBOX's? What would a Celeron 500 box be worth anyway? Any ideas post in the FBOX thread. I have a few but lets here what you have to say.
