The secret is out.

Thursday 02/05/02

Stanford have released a new Mac client with a few bug fixes, also news about the Win32 client.

Check it out at http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html .Changes: Quitting from the dock now works. This will probably be the last 2.x OSX client, there are no more outstanding bugs that we know of. People have mentioned a "white screen" problem. The "white screen" happens on machines with no OpenGL accelerator support.

Version 2.20 for Win32 will be out soon. It has a whole mess of bug fixes for networking and graphics.

Friday 03/05/02

Another new protein has arrived, this one is called PolyQ50 and its Project 504. Its value is 1.9 points with a seven day deadline. Its seems good value for the time spent crunching it. It returns better points per hour when compared to a A protein and returns twice the value of a bba5 type protein.

Protein Points Total Time PPH
PolyQ50 1.9 11816 secs 0.578
Ag29aNat 5.0 53857 secs 0.334
bba5_build_ext 0.6 7421 secs 0.291

Times based on a XP@1600Mhz

The Windows version of the 700 series proteins are now running.

We're now running the 700 project series on Windows - we've tested
it here in the lab, but it's possible there might be some errors
out in "the real world", so please let me know . . .

But they had a small hiccup with the new core that is downloaded with the new 700 WU's. the new core_65 caused the frame time to increase by 50% compared to the old core. Apparently this was caused by the new compiler they used. All is fixed now and a new updated core was released as soon as it was noticed.

Yes, we noticed this right before y'all did, and spent last night
and today figuring it out. It turns out the difference is
the Fortran compiler (the inner, scientific part is in Fortran). The
previous core was compiled with the Intel Fortran 4.5 compiler, and
the newer one with the Intel Fortran 5.0 compiler. It turns out that
Intel 5.0 is about 50% slower on Athlons and 10-20% slower for Pentium
II-III architectures than the Intel 4.5 is (didn't test Pentium 4's).
So we have gone back to the Fortran 4.5, and the revised core is
posted on the web site. Autodownload of the core is controlled by the
work unit type, so the revised new core won't automatically update at
this point - you would have to quite, delete the old Core_65.exe, and
then when FAH starts, it will download the new core. A lot of
functionality was added, but nothing was touched in the code of that
the non-700 series WU's does, so it really is all the compiler. We
tested the Intel 6.0 compiler today, too - faster than 5.0, not as
fast as 4.5.

Hope that clears things up. Let us know if there are still slowdowns
with the 'new' new core . . .

As most of you know I have been planning a big surprise for sometime now and on Wednesday night the surprise was revealed in the forums, after a bit of teasing and frenzied activity from the folding community (I have never seen such activity in the DC forum like that and it was great fun. I think we filled three pages in that thread in about 30 minutes). For those that don't visit the forums much I can tell you now that the surprise is a Giveaway competition. It has been in planning for quite a few weeks now and is still at least two weeks away from starting. All prize donations have been confirmed with the Giveaway sponsors and we are just waiting for delivery of the goods before we get under way.

This Giveaway is designed to reward the dedicated members of this folding team for getting us where we are today and to also encourage new members to join and participate in a most worthwhile cause and help speed along the process of find cures for some of the worlds most serious diseases.

The Giveaway will run for about eight weeks with weekly prize draws and a grand prize of a "folding box". Basically a complete computer minus monitor, it will have a CDROM, keyboard, wheel mouse and even a mouse mat.

All you have to do is produce 5 points a week to be eligible for the weekly prize draw. To be eligible for the grand prize you must have remained active from the time you entered the competition to the time of the grand prize draw. eg: If you started in week one then you have to remain active for the entire eight weeks and if you entered in week 4 you have to stay active for the remaining time as well.

I will keep a list of members that are eligible to enter the draw and it will be updated daily.  All eligible members will be automatically entered into the draw but if for some reason you don't want to be in it let me know by email or forum PM. If a prize is unclaimed after two weeks it will be redrawn from the members eligible for that week.

If you belong to a team such as Whirlpool or GameDude for example then each team member who wants be in the giveaway they will have to nominate themselves as being a member of that team and then that team must produce 5 points per nominated person.

When a member becomes eligible for entry into the Giveaway that person will be given a number like this 11316. I will be using a sequence number generator  for each persons number and the last 4 digits will range from 0001 to 2000. Also I will add a number at the front which will signify the week of the Giveaway, 11316, 20456, 30099 etc. I will generate at the beginning of the each week of the Giveaway a complete list of numbers from 0001 to 2000 and save it and issue each number as members become eligible. All the numbers a member collects for each week they produce 5 points (providing they have been active every week) from time of entry will be entered into the final draw for the grand prize. so it pays to start folding at the beginning so you maximise your chances. Each week a winner will be selected from that weeks eligible members using that weeks numbers and the winning number will be selected by this random number generator.

The draw will be open to all members, even the overseas members. But getting the prize to those overseas members may be a problem unless they would like to contribute to the shipping costs, which of course depends on the value of the prize won. I am prepared to absorb local postage costs.

Details of the prize list and participating sponsors will be release soon when everything is finalised. When that has happened there will be one weeks notice so the word can be spread to give maximum coverage of our Giveaway among other groups and folding affiliates. Also to allow new members to join and participate from the beginning of the Giveaway.

Another thought that I had was to give the people already folding and active before the giveaway was announced last Wednesday night an extra bonus number in the grand prize draw. As a reward for dedicated service to the team.

That should be enough to confuse you for now.

TheWeatherMan has been busy again and has updated his Electron Microscope III to version 1.5.

What's new for v1.5:
Speed of Graphics routines much faster.
Option for not drawing Protein Pics added.
Config file can now be edited in EM.
Replaced multi-colored progress bar.

I fixed several small "bugs" and improved some internal code.
Since the graphics routines are much faster, less CPU time is used.
If you turn the Protein graphic drawing off then even less CPU time is consumed.

I did not have the time this week to build in the "EM Movie" features that are in the EM Viewer. I will be very busy next week, so there may not be any updates to EM at all next week unless someone finds a bug that needs to be smashed. I added the "No Protein Drawing" feature for those of you who watch a bunch of systems. This will remove some of the "strain" on the system you run EM on. EM can only track 50 systems so there is a limit.

I removed all the default skins except the original to cut down on the size of the download. I will put all the other "Default" skins in a separate zip file and post that ASAP. As before, if you have EM III v1.x installed already, just unzip the EMIII.exe file only. That's all you need. If you are new to EM then extract the files to a folder using the expand path info option in your "unzip" program. This will create the Skins folder and the actual "Skin" folder under that with all the pics and info for the skin.

This weekend I am going to work on the Docs for this program. While it isn't completely necessary, I think in some cases you will be able to get a lot more from the program when you have a clear understanding of what each feature is used for and why or why not it is needed by you the user. Many long-time EM users know the features inside and out, but if you're new to EM some of them can be confusing. I designed EM to work almost without the need to know anything about the program. This gives the user something that works "out of the box" and cuts down the learning curve to near zero. The only thing you really have to do to get started is to put one path to the F@H folder, add it, save and exit. Everything will work from there.

Enjoy the program!

Get the new file from the EM web site:

What a great days production we had yesterday with a 3,434 points for the day, which gave us a 269 point gain on the [H]orde. Our membership is going from strength to strength we now have 1496 members and no doubt we will pass the 1500 member milestone today. Member activity is on the increase to with 602 active compared with 549 just 14 days ago. With some exciting things in the pipeline we can only get improve our position from here, good going guys and gals.

The Top 20 has been updated.

Sunday 05/05/02

We have just added out 1500th member at the 11am WST update. I will find out who it is later and let you know.

Update: The 1500th member is Simion, welcome to the team.

Team Weekly has been updated.

Monday 06/05/02

The "Blue Line" is ours, if you don't know what the blue line is check out Statsman's stats and see what I mean. Ok I will tell you, it means we are the top producing team in the world for the last seven days up to the last update. We haven't had the blue line for at least 5 months maybe more, well done team but the worm has only turned it now needs to work its way to the surface and stay there.

Larry has posted a page specifically for help with setting up his Electron Microscope III folding monitor program also the page goes into detail describing what each feature does and how to use them. Have a look here.

Stanford have said the new scientific code will be released soon maybe on Friday. It will involve the download of a new core, this will happen automatically when a new work unit is started after the new code and core are released. We may also get the new client 2.20 as well.

5/3/2002 New scientific codes for Folding@Home

Pretty soon (probably next Friday), we'll release the info about the new Core(s) we've been talking about. We're still testing internally, but so far all looks good. More info in a week ...

After a discussion in the forums last night it has been decided that to automatically assume that everyone that is eligible for the Giveaway will want to enter it, but if you don't want to enter then you will have to let me know. Also if a weekly prize lays unclaimed after two weeks it will be redrawn from the eligible members from that week.

The worm has turned, finally its going in a upward direction. Yesterday was another great day for the stats with another 241 points wiped off our deficit. Over the last 12 updates from Statsman we have won 7 of the updates compared to the team above us and we are only 310 points adrift for the week which is an average of just 44 points a day. A vast improvement on the 700 points a day we were losing just 33 days ago. Well done team I think you all need a reward for all the hard work that you have done so hang on just a bit longer and you will, also I am willing to bet one of my little green gonads that during the Great Folding Giveaway a greater reward we all have been striving for will once again be bestowed upon our great team.

Tuesday 07/05/02

If you belong to a sub team and intend to take part in the folding Giveaway get together and make a list participating members so that you can submit a list of individuals who then can take part in the Giveaway. We are a little bit closer to getting the goodies organised and it wont be long now. Hang on we are almost there.

The caption "Always No1" on our logo on Stanford's and Statsman's stats pages is a little out dated so the guys in the Forums are having a poll to see what it should be replaced with. Have a read and have a vote and lets get it happening. Thanks to Ninsei for setting this in motion and getting the poll running.

Another day and another 339 points closer to the team in first place and that means the worm is closer to popping his head out and basking in the sun once again. Well done team this is going to fun and when the difference gets a bit bigger I will add a prediction line to the Daily Stats above. Ah there is nothing quite like a countdown.

Wednesday 08/05/02

I gave the Folding Club page a bit of a work over, check it out. Don't forget to refresh the page.

Thursday 09/05/02

A little bit of news from Stanford about the up and coming client 2.20

You'll be happy to hear that the new windows client (2.20), which
will be released soon, fixes a lot of the memory issues that older
versions had, including the window open/close memory issue mentioned
in one of the earlier emails of this thread

We'll hopefully have 2.20 up for beta within the day or two... it'll
be announced on the newsgroups when this happens.

Cheers,

- siraj

Another good set of stats today after the worm took a rest yesterday. The prediction is back into the daily stats and it feels good to be on the other end of it (unlike last time). At our current rate of weekly output we should see a change of leadership in early August and no doubt we can improve on that considerable.

Friday 10/05/02

Some unfortunate news regarding Den the provider of Den's stats and the maker of Foldmonitor. Apparently he has shut shop for personal reasons and has closed down his web site. There is a local copy of Foldmonitor here. We must thank Den for providing us with the script that runs our stats at the top of this page. We hope to see you back soon Den, you have been a valuable member of the worldwide DC community and you will be missed.

Due to personal reasons, Den will no longer be supporting these 2 programs and has shut down all his stats and personal servers. Hopefully in the future Den will return to the scene, but for now, access to this info is no longer available by Den

Saturday 11/05/02

EMIII version 1.6 has been released with a few new features.

Option to save a data file that tracks the proteins you crunch. This is a beta feature. Currently it seems to work until the FAH client can't contact the server. Makes the routine 'burp' and it doesn't save the info. Tracking down this glitch is troublesome because when testing the program it takes so long to not only finish a frame, but you have to catch it just as it finishes the last frame and the problem has to occur. Ugh! I will get it worked out. Just be aware that it does this right now.

You can run multiple instances or different configurations of EM III.
Why would you want this feature? Oh, maybe you want to watch 2 different systems in the full view window separately, or maybe you want to monitor 4 different systems in the default 2 view window. Maybe you want to watch 10 instances of the client in the 5 view window. Get the picture? You can also set a different instance with a different skin... ah, a different shortcut for each day of the week, month, etc. There are over 30 different skins available now. When using this feature you start EM III with the -more command and a number or letter of the alphabet. Notice the space between the command and the number or letter.
Some examples would be:
EMIII.exe -more 1
EMIII.exe -more a

You can use numbers 0 to 9 or letters a-z when using the -more command. This command can be used in conjunction with the -clear command and it doesn't matter which command is first, EM will always look for the -more command then the -clear command so you can clear the right settings.

Time Remaining information counts down.
When frame times are short, this doesn't matter that much, but when the frame time starts to be longer like they are when you are doing the current 10 frame proteins, this feature comes in handy.

I have also optimized many of the routines in EM III so they use as little CPU time as possible. The CPU time that EM III uses has been shrinking even though you may not have noticed it. Currently it doesn't matter if EM is displayed or not, it will use the same amount of CPU time either way. In the instructions for EM III you are given some tips on what uses CPU time in EM III. To get the most use out of EM III it would be a good idea to read the document at least once.

Just pop over to the EM site and get the latest download:

Team GameDude 1822
GadgetMan 1349
Computer Alliance 1068
Rod M (LowNoisePC) 957
TuNeS (Below Zero) 749

Wednesday 15/05/02

A quick stats update since Statsman is down.

Team Points (21:00 WST) Points Today (from 07:00 WST) Hourly average Predicted 24 Hour Total
TTIFP 409410 2303 164.5 3948
OCAU 396395 2663 190.2 4565

Looking at a typical 6hr update like Statsman does we would be doing over 1140 points each update. This is great going guys and more is still to come.

We have just past the 1600 member milestone at 17:00 WST.

News from Stanford regarding new work units, its from last week so its old news I guess.

New work units to study Huntington's Disease (HD)

We've put out new WUs (project 503 and 504) to study HD. In some ways, HD is similar to Alzheimer's disease (AD) in that both involve misfolding. What's different with HD is that it involves the misfolding of a homopolymeric repeat of glutamines (Q). These large (40-60) poly-Q repeats misfold, aggregate, and then do nasty things. Like our work in AD, we're looking to understand the misfolding found in HD. For more information on HD, check out a great site (which happens to be at Stanford) called HOPES at http://www.stanford.edu/group/hopes/index.html.

Our founding member here in the House of Folding Madness  Lombers has written up a new service guide for Windows NT/2K/XP using a new version of Firedaemon. Is here in the Forums and I will update the web page soon.

Yesterdays numbers are looking good with the difference in output between us and the team in first place just 1 point. With our momentum gathering pace it looks like we may have weathered TTIFP's (the team in first place) recruitment drive and we should start to gain on them again. Membership increased by 22 yesterday and some former folders have resumed activity again, a big welcome to all of you.

With GameDude's offer of a $10 discount for the first 25 folding members to buy a XP processor we have add the first one go, so only 24 left. Get in quick before you miss out.

Statsman is out of action for the next day or so.

My hosting site has transferred my account to some new servers. I need to change the DNS settings in the Internet for the domain. This will mean the StatsMan stats pages will not get updated for the next 24-72 hours.

Thursday 16/05/02

On Monday the Folding site had its single biggest day for page hits with almost 4000 pages viewed which is 5 times more than normal. All this is a direct response to the Giveaway being announced and the biggest flood of hits came after it was announced on the news page. Thanks Agg.

Another big event today was passing the 400,000 points milestone. A big well done to all that contributed to this great achievement.

We now have 398 members enrolled for the Giveaway if you haven't already done so post your Folding name in here to nominate yourself.

Statsman is back.

What a big day we had yesterday, we produced 4176 points and wiped 199 points of our deficit to TTIFP, it was also our biggest ever single days production, well done team. We gained 22 new members as well, welcome to you all.

Friday 17/05/02

Folding@Home got a mention in the Technology Review's TR100 for the top 100 Innovators under 35.

If you are wondering about Foldmonitor's strange behavior with the 2.43 core in that it counts each frame as 0.9 instead of a whole frame this is why. Its from Den over at the DSLReports forums for Team Helix.

This was pointed out to me. Somebody needs to let them know that some proteins (or clients..I don't know which) are not writing the same amount to the .chk file per frame as the previous proteins were. It's still correct on my Linux machines. It should be 40 bytes and it's writing 36 per frame in some cases which makes the fractional numbers in the display. They should at least pad the output to the file to make them all the same.

This doesn't effect your folding at all just that Foldmonitor reports a funny frame count.

We are up to 421 nominations for the Giveaway.

Another good days output yesterday and a nice gain on TTIFP. Another 20 soldiers for the Folding Front were recruited to help the cause and things are going along nicely at the minute.

Saturday 18/05/02

Since we are on the march again and gaining on TTIFP I thought that I would bring back the daily analysis of the previous days folding effort and call it Worm Watch. I called it that because the line in this chart  reminds be of the path a worm would make while trying to get back to the surface after sometime underground. But I think we need a name for the poor bugger don't you.

The worm has awoken after a little setback last week and is once again heading for the surface. We knocked another 127 points of the deficit and we are now 12,904 points behind. If we continue to improve the way we have been doing the Blue Line will be ours again come Monday today. Another huge haul of new members was found in the Folding net this morning, 22 to be exact, a big welcome to you all.

Sunday 19/05/02

Ladies and Gentlemen  "Start Your Engines"

Tomorrow is the big day when the Folding@Home Giveaway starts and this is what you will all be folding for kindly donated by Rod of LowNoise PC. This weeks prize consists of a Zalman CNPS 6000alcu HSF and is suitable for any Socket A (462) and socket 370 CPU's , papst 8412NGL 80mm fan and a fan mate1 fan speed controller.

So keep those engines revving and the flag drops at 07:00 WST tomorrow. Remember you have to have produced at least 5 points by next Monday the 27th of May to qualify for the draw and you must have also posted your name in here.

Team Weekly has been updated. I will do the Milestones and Top 20 tomorrow.

The worm has turned blue in honor of the Blue Line we achieved yesterday, which means that we have again out performed the TTIFP for the past week. In fact they only had the blue line for 5 days. Now lets see what Wilbur can do with an uninterrupted run at heading for the surface. We are another 188 points closer to TTIFP today and another 19 members have seen the light and join the team. Our activity rate is continuing to grow and we gained 21 active members yesterday, all this activity means we have the largest active team of all the teams folding, even beating Google who seem to be losing active members quite quickly.

Monday 20/05/02

The Giveaway Member lists have been updated. A-C, D-G, H-M, N-S, T-Z

The Milestone Club has been updated and what a whopper it was, 3 days worth.

The Overclockers Australia Folding@Home Team Giveaway is Go Go Go.

The moment we have all been waiting is here, all the hype and build up as turned into reality and its all systems go. As of 07:00 WST the Folding Giveaway started and good luck to everyone. I will update the list during the day of everyone that is eligible (ie 5 points already) and assign the first numbers to those members that have also posted in the nomination thread.

We had a great day yesterday production wise with another day record for us with 4,362 points being produced. Wilbur had a great day as well yesterday and moved another 410 points closer to the surface, with all that movement it means that the prediction is back and we should be No1 again in 106 days time. I'm sure we can reduce that considerable over the next few weeks. Welcome to the 8 new members that joined the Fold yesterday.

Tuesday 21/05/02

We have almost averaged 200 points each hour since 07:00 WST till 21:00 WST which is a fantastic effort guys and we are on track to break our daily record again. This means is that we have knocked off another 529 points our deficit in 14Hrs and brought the change over date in to June.

The Giveaway nominations list have been updated again and we already have 343 members eligible out of 528 that have entered.

The Top 20 has finally been done.

Some big news from Stanford regard the new Folding@Home client. It is going to be called Folding@Home Version 3.0, because has a lot of changes and upgrades it warranted a new name not just and upgrade from version 2.19. Here is the link to check it all out http://folding.stanford.edu/FAH3.html. The beta client is now available to try if you like.

Folding@Home 3.0 FAQ

What's new with Folding@Home 3.0? We've made several changes to the 2.0 client -- enough that everyone should strongly consider upgrading (and well worth the "3.0" label). However, many of the features work with the old client (in particular the new scientific cores) so if you're client is working well, you don't need to upgrade.

Download the beta

You can download the betas here: (http://folding.stanford.edu/beta3/)

What's new?

  1. Better user security. There is now extra protection for users running Folding@Home (we use schemes similar to SSH [a public/private key infrastructure] for maxmimal security).

  2. New scientific cores. We have integrated Genome@Home into the F@H infrastructure. Soon, the F@H 3.x client will allow one to choose which project (and eventually, sub parts of the project).

  3. Faster scientific cores. Our new MD core (based on Gromacs) is considerably faster (10x to 20x).

  4. Better network compatibility. We now be able to transmit packets over HTTP port 80 if needed. The last firewall problems should be solved.

  5. Improved client. There are lots of miscellaneous fixes to the client, including a completely overhauled graphics engine, better configuration, etc.

  6. New forum. We are encouraging people to switch to the new forum (http://forum.folding-community.org). We will check the Yahoo groups pages occasionally, but we will treat the new forum as the primary discussion area.

We are working on additional features which will likely also become part of "3.0", but these are the changes we are currently rolling out.

What will remain the same?

Essentially, everything else will remain the same. Unlike our big jump from 1.0 to 2.0, going from 2.0 to 3.0 will not be a big deal. Mainly, we're adding a lot of new functionality (especially on the science side), but nothing significant changes to how you use it (eg no changes to the stats).

The Giveaway has been going just over 24 Hrs and already 259 members are eligible for the draw out of the 519 that have entered. I have updated the nominations lists this morning and will do it again tonight. So don't worry if your name isn't on it yet and you have done the 5 points since yesterday, it will be soon.

The worm has just changed gear and is speeding along at an amazing average of 4002 points per day for the past week. This sort of output is just incredible, well done team. We slashed another 497 points off our deficit to get it under 12,000 points. Another nine members signed up yesterday to help with the charge to the top.

Wednesday 22/05/02

I have added GameDude's prize list and photo to the Giveaway Prize List page. Check it out because they have donated some great prizes, a big thanks comes from all us.

Another Giveaway update and we now have 436 eligible out of 548.

When Statsman next updates at 15:00 WST check out our 6Hr output it should be a whopper.

Our main man Lombers has just written a new Guide to the setting up of a service for WinNT/2K/XP using Firedaemon. Check it out here.

Just a reminder about GameDude's offer of a $10 discount off a Athlon XP processor for the first 25 members of the Folding community to buy one from them, contact me first and I will give you the details before ordering. There are 24 left.

The Giveaway Nomination lists has been updated again, this time we have 381 eligible out of 537 nominations. The list of members that haven't nominated is growing daily so if want a chance to win some great prizes post your name in here.

This is the news release about the beta versions of FAH3 and they have an expiry date so it looks like they have a two week life span before another beta is released or they go ahead and make it official.

5/21/2002 Folding@Home 3.0 beta clients released (for linux and Win32)

You can download the betas at http://folding.stanford.edu/beta3. There are beta versions for linux and windows. Since these are betas, we have expiration dates on them and they will expire on June 4, 2001. By then, we will either have new beta versions or hopefully a release version. Please post comments about the betas to the forum (http://forum.folding-community.org).

The news about version 3 has caused a lot of concern among the folding world. Here is a few snips that hopefully will clear things up a bit. Its from the Genome project leader Stefan.

That's almost right. Whatever units you have from G@h 0.99 will stay with the "G@h Classic" project and any units produced with that client (or subsequent 1.x versions of G@h Classic) will count towards the Genome@home project.

As far as Folding@home 3.0 is concerned, there will be no differentiation between stats from F@h or G@h cores (in fact, there will be two different folding cores and one genome core, with more likely on the way). The F@h3.0 stats will simply build upon the existing F@h2.x stats. If a user is running F@h2.x currently, they will notice no major external difference upon switching to F@h3.0, but they will be producing work units with a mixture of three different scientific cores, running three different scientific algorithms, one of them being the G@h protein design algorithm. The first of the 3.x series clients will not have the option to choose one core over another, but we'll likely add that in the future.

I know this is probably a bit confusing, and it took us a while to work out all the possible ways of merging the projects, but this way seems to serve our research and scientific goals well, while providing a good deal for the users. The long and the short of it is this:

a) If you're running the G@h0.99 client, and want to stick exclusively with the Genome@home project, great. Don't change a thing. The G@h stats and website will stay as is with only minor changes (e.g. now calling the project "G@h Classic").

b) If you're running F@h2.x, and want to stay with the Folding@home project, great. You don't have to do anything at this point, but you're strongly encouraged to upgrade to the F@h3.0 client. It will have some added features, and will allow you to produce work units and increment your F@h stats by running a number of different biomolecular simulation algorithms (one being the same algorithm as now exists in G@h). Note that the client (and stats) will look and behave the same no matter which of the three cores you happen to be running at any one time.

c) The stats from G@h Classic and F@h2.x/3.0 will never see each other and will have nothing to do with each other. Any stats created with G@h Classic(i.e. G@h0.99) will continue to be added onto any existing G@h stats. Any stats created with the F@h3.0 client (no matter which core is run) will simply be added onto any existing F@h2.x stats. The critical point is this: workunits created using the G@h-algorithm scientific core in F@h3.0 will in no way enter the G@h Classic project. Although the two projects are run by the same research group and share (partially) a simulation algorithm and research goals, they will outwardly remain two distinct distributed computing projects.

Finally, let me say that we are all *very excited* about F@h3.0. It will be one single distributed computing client, which will run three different biomolecular simulation algorithms, all under one project, website, server infrastructure, and stats system. This is a huge step towards the Pande Group's research goal of understanding and designing the atomic detail behaviour of proteins and nucleic acids.

Hope this helps - Stefan

Another day and another 489 points closer to the surface, something funny happened with the stats around 07:00 this morning so our day total of 3925 points may be a little short of what it should be. But never the less it is still a great days work by all. Welcome to the 13 new members that call the House of Folding home, we hope you enjoy your stay.

The Top 20 has been updated along with the Milestone Club

Today sees us another 306 points closer after a reduced days output of 4227 points when compared to the 2 previous days, (we cant break records every day can we). Nine more recruits yesterday pushed our total membership to 1734 and our active members to 754. We now have less than three weeks at present rate of production levels before we take the Folding crown back and once again hoist the No1 folding Team flag high for all to see.

Sunday 26/05/02

The Giveaway Nominations Lists have been updated. There is only one more update before the draw tomorrow, so if you haven't done 5 points yet, get cracking only 10 hrs left and you could win these prizes donated by

I will do a final update after 7am WA time and post the winners name shortly after. Also there will be three consolation prizes of April's edition of APC magazine. So if you see your name in lights tomorrow contact me through the forums PM system and we can arrange delivery of this weeks prize.

Foldmonitor is back and updated by Den to clear up the partial frame count created by the new core 2.43. Grab it here locally. His web site is back also here, thanks Den and welcome back.

Team Weekly has been updated and something amazing is that we have increased our production level by 50% in just 4 weeks, from 20,000 points to 30,000 points a week, well done to all of you. Your reward is almost upon us.

Look down in the ground, its a grub, its a caterpillar, no its Wilbur the Wonder Worm. He is able to leap large folding teams in a single bound, break stats records with ease and dig his way out of his burrow in less than 2 weeks. Well we hope so. This worm knows how to keeping wriggling his way to the top with a great days gain on the top team of 675  points and a huge daily output of 4700 points. Helped along by the addition of 6 new members. Well done one and all.

RETARD has kind produced a Top 500 with points production and position changes.

Wednesday 29/05/02

I have updated the nominations list up to S, I will get everything completely updated tomorrow, including Milestones.

Another great days effort by all yesterday which meant we gained 763 points on the leading team and shortened the time to get to No1 by 2 days. 11 more members pushed our membership to 1776.

Thursday 30/05/02

A little update from the Folding-Community.org about several issues with the current beta and problems with port 80 and the ID problem with running multiple instances on the same computer. Also a bit about the autosend feature.

To answer several concerns that have popped up on this thread:

1. We agree that port 80 has to be fixed in order to release 3.0; we have been focusing most of our debugging effort on this & we are pretty confident that we are getting closer to a solution.

2. The dual CPU / registry ID problem fix is in the works

3. Autosend's impact on performance is negligible - we've probably spent more time debating it than the combined slowdown of all F@H participants for the next 5 years. Its cosmetic effects have been removed & it now checks only once every 6 hours. The boost in productivity from F@H's point of view is huge - we are expecting a large segment of the work that comes back too late to now be returned on time.

There'll be a new beta in the next couple of days which will implement 2 & 3, and hopefully will be better as far as 1 is concerned.

Watch this space for more info!

We are in recognition of this matter. We changed to "ID in registry" to better treat people who just copy F@H directory to another machine. Siraj and I are working on it, and soon we will have a solution. (We actually have a number of ideas... (: ) In the mean time, you have to use F@H-3-beta and F@H-2 if you want to fully use the dual CPU power. (Or two F@H-2's)

I thought I would take a photo of all the coolers we have for the Giveaway and here they are all 7 of them. We did have eight but Kaliban has it.

Finally the nomination lists have been updated and they are current as of this morning. We have 508 eligible out of  616 nominations for the Giveaway. If you want to take part in the Giveaway post your folding name in this thread and produce 5 points before next Monday and you are in with a chance.

Not only is the worm on viagra but he is on steroids to. Yesterday we shortened the gap by an amazing 989 points and produced 4991 points for the day, way to go team. At this rate Wilbur will be poking his head out in less than a week. Adding to that amazing days output were 10 new members, welcome to the team and enjoy your stay.

Friday 31/05/02

The Giveaway lists have been updated and so has the non eligible list. There are 538 eligible out of 621 nominations so far.

With the consolation prizes of APC magazines. From now on they wont be given out because they cost too much to post, as I found out his week. A minimum of $5 to a maximum of $7 each to send, the reason being they weigh over 500 grams and are classed as parcels. Sorry folks. Those that have won them for week one will still get them in the mail next week.

Another day and another 870 points dug out by the worm. Today sees the start of a more accurate countdown, I have changed the days left to hours left and we have 182 hours to go before No1 is ours. We should get to the 500,000 points milestone first as well. A big welcome to the nine new members that joined yesterday.
