Results from our Folding efforts: news from Stanford...

Here are a couple of news items form Stanford

Important new FAH results
We've just published some neat new results -- the first published results from the Gromacs core. You can see a press release from Stanford University as well as the paper itself in the papers section

Prof. Pande's talk at PARC now online
Check out Prof. Pande's talk at PARC at this link online. For those who are interested in how FAH works and some of the recently published works, this talk discusses these issues and is meant for a general scientific audience.

Look whose active again: how do you say zzsstt...

A former No1 OCAU folding team member from V1 and V2 zzsstt as returned to his old stomping ground to help the team out once more. I don't know how long he has been active for but it seems like quite a while looking at his score. Welcome back zzsstt.

FFF: the cupboard is almost bare...

The FFF and BYO draw pages have been updated. Funds are getting low after purchasing 3 cases for FBOX18, 19 and 20 and CPU adapter for FBOX21 (socket 423 to 478) to fit the Celeron 1.7g that Nemesis donated. The FFF also bought a Tualatin Slot1 adapter for the 1.1g Celeron donated by FaTs. Many thanks to Manly Mark for donating back the motherboard and CPU that we finally got to replace his DOA bits from FBOX11. Mark just happened to replace the bits himself has the parts came in from DavidRa and mtech, so they will make up FBOX19.

So what does all this mean, well now we have three more FBOX's up and running and one more waiting on a cooler donated by FaTs for the 1.7G Celeron with the adapter. The adapters and one of the cases were bought off EBAY, which has just become my new hunting ground for parts for my own folding machines. To raise some more funds I plan on selling a 1.5G P4 Xeon that FaTs donated some time again on eBAY, it should fetch about $100 according to previous sales. We also have other various bits here in the ogres swap that our members have donated over the past 12 months that could bring in some needed funds through eBAY as well.

If any of you out there have any bits and pieces that might be of value to someone let me now and we could sell them on EBAY. You could send me a picture of the item for sale, I could list it on eBAY and when its sold the money goes straight into the FFF and then the donator could post it off the the auction winner. I could then transfer the cost of postage to the donator if they wish otherwise its more money for the FFF. How does that sound for an idea to raise some cash and build up some more machines around the 3 AXP CPU's that we have sitting here waiting for their turn slotted into a FBOX.

I have permission to run a few machines at my place of employment, so I have setup a mini LAN and installed a modem and once or twice a week upload the waiting WU's. So this leads to my plan for the Tualatin and the 2 x 1.1g Celerons that mtech donated and that is to run the machines at work with the username of one of the BtB nominees that is drawn out when the BtB giveaway is announced. They will get three machines folding under their name for the 2 weeks of the next BtB giveaway. Hopefully they should produce over a 1000 points a week between them which will be a nice boost for the lucky recipient.

So in summary if you want to donate some cash to help revive the FFF send me a PM and I will pass on the account number to you. If you have some spare parts lying around too good to throw out that may be of value to someone PM me as well and I will sell them on eBay for you with the money going to the FFF. Also if you have any AMD motherboards that would suit a XP1700TBred, XP1800TBred and a XP2600 Barton do like wise and we can get some more folding goodness up and running.

Xeon eBay listing: Auction ends...
It was a bit disappointing to only get $47 for the Xeon, but the money will go towards a case which will help make a new FBOX come to being and in the end be more productive than a CPU sitting on a shelf.
