New FAH Deployer: by fourth

Thanks to fourth we now have a new FAH deployer. It comes complete with all the batch files and documentation. It is in 7z archive format and you will need this file to extract it.

I needed a better way to manage the deployment of dozens of clients at a time. I wrote a series of batch files to cover this requirement. This set of scripts would be good for anyone who does a bit of fiddling with FAH and constantly installs and uninstalls clients. I would be also useful to anyone about to perform a large rollout.

Capabilities:

  • Installs one, two or one thousand clients with a mere double click. All installs are performed concurrently so it’ll deploy as fast as your machine can push out the install files. If previous work units are found the installer will copy them back to the workstation to continue folding.

  • Uninstalls the same way as installs, all concurrently. Work units that are in progress will be backed up for redeployment. Never again loose that 600 pointer just because the machine needed a rebuild.

  • Farm Enumeration. Now that you have all these boxes folding, how do you know they all have clients running?

  • Farm info. Want to know how many GHZ your running? What are all your OS types or how much RAM is in each machine. The Farm info script will create a CSV file and fire up Excel or whatever application you have registered against .csv.

  • Work unit culling. Some firewalls do not permit Stanford servers to correctly respond to a client after WU results have been sent. A script exists that will delete all files from the work unit directory that are old enough to no longer be in use. Sounds dangerous but in the 30-60 instances I manage has never been a problem.

Update: If you have any questions or suggestions fourth has started a thread here in the DC forum.

OCAU retake top spot: the duck comes back 21 days later..
After a massive effort by everyone over the past 21 days we have reclaimed the bragging rights to the title of "The No1 Folding Team on the Planet" and a duck trophy that belongs with it. Its been a great effort that has seen our active membership increase by 400 over the past four weeks and our 50 day active CPU count go up by 1800 to almost 8000 in the same period of time. Now its time to see if the [H]orde can respond to the gauntlet thrown down by us and try and take the duck back.
