FBOX donations: can you spare a CPU mate  ...

The cupboard is looking bare atm with regards to future FBOX builds, we have two motherboards that are looking for Palomino XP's and one socket 423 P4 motherboard that needs filling up. Other than that we don't have anything left with which to build a machine around. If you would like to donate a spare CPU, motherboard etc drop a post in this thread and I will get in contact with you.

eBay: more items for sale ...

I put up a few more items on eBay the other day, they seem to be attracting a bit of interest early on, especially the deceased CPU's.

Electron Microscope v3.0.0: major updates ...

TheWeatherMan (Larry) has been busy updating his great monitor program EM3

Major Update To EM
AMBER Core Now Recognized
New Protein Data File Structure
New EM Calculator update

Even though there have been some major changes to EM internally, I always try and make upgrades as easy and simple as possible. This update is no exception. If you are already using EM, you only need to get the upgrade version. There is no need to reinstall EM using the full install zip file.

The new AMBER core is now recognized. I revamped the protein data file. I am no longer basing the protein value on the protein name. I am now using the project number. This should get rid of a lot of those unknown protein point values because the protein name on the Stanford web site doesn't match the actual protein name in the work unit data file. This is a major update to the program so I have gone from version 2 to version 3. I still have more changes to make, but this converts EM to work with this new protein data file structure. The calculator has also been updated to work with this new structure also. I expect that because EM has gotten very complicated internally, there may be something I missed. Please post anything you notice that doesn't act correctly or as expected. Provide the work unit name/project number when you post.

The old protein data file will no longer be supported or updated. The old file has been removed from the site and the new one has been put up in its place. If this new method works out, I may be able to make EM update automatically and the days of posting new protein data files may be over... I hope. Only time will tell.

Thanks very much to those of you who have donated a couple of $$$ to the EM-DC.COM web site. I really appreciate the help.

Enjoy!

BEATtheBOX: renominations required.

Its been over 12 months since we started giving away FBOXes and some of the nominations have gone stale even though people are still Folding they aren't active forum members and don't visit the DC forum. So its time to renominate yourselves and start afresh. Also I have tweaked the rules a bit, see this list below for details.

The next BTB comp starts Monday the 25th of October.

Rules

1:Only one entry per forum member will be allowed.
2:You will need to have accumulated at least 2000 points before coming eligible to enter the Giveaway.
3:The winner must agree to pay for the cost of postage of the FBOX, payable by donation to the FFF.
4:Members of Subteams can participate but the points required to beat the box will be multiplied by the number of members nominated. For example subteam ugocau may have 5 members nominated, therefore they need 5 x 380ppw = 1900 points before all the ugocau members qualify for the draw.
Each "BEATtheBOX" giveaway will run for two weeks with one FBOX up for grabs, there will be a weeks break in between each giveaway.
You don't need to have a computer that is faster than the FBOX to compete. That is why the 50% and 75% levels are there. Also you can use more the one computer to beat the box. Basically Fold as normal with what you have got, if you need to fold a bit harder to reach the 100% mark to give yourself a better chance of winning the prize you know what to do.
5:All numbers will be generated by a sequence number generator and the winning numbers will be selected by the random number generator at the same site.
6:The winner must pledge to run the FBOX 24/7. The reason being that the donations were made so that the Folding cause and the Overclockers Australia Folding team would benefit from everyone pooling there unused parts to make up these FBOX's. Therefore we need a commitment from the winner that this will happen, if you cannot commit to this then don't enter. It is not a "win a free computer" competition.
7:If for some reason the winner of a FBOX cant continue to fold 24/7 or wants to stop folding all together then the FBOX must be returned to the OCAU Folding team for redistribution.
8:When person is lucky enough to win a FBOX their name is removed from the list of BEATtheBOX nominees.
9:The winner must contact me through the forums PM system and agree to the terms above and to make arrangements for postage within two weeks of the draw or the FBOX will be redrawn.

Amber core: FAQ  ...

With the release of the AMBER core (FahCore_82) quite a few questions have been asked about it, so Stanford have made up a FAQ to help with these questions. BTW AMBER is an acronym for Assisted Model Building with Energy Refinement. Also here is a Gromac FAQ prepared earlier for your reading pleasure.
