Wednesday 03/09/03

The summit is in sight: Just 9 days to go.
Its been a long haul but the summit is just a few more days away, at present production levels we have just 9 days to go and the Folding world we have a new leading team. If we achieve that target it would have been 448 days since we were last at the No1 position. Back then we were producing about 5,000 points a day with 874 active members. Our output over the past week has been phenomenal and we are breaking all sorts of records for daily and weekly production. Our daily production has hit 114,000 points and the weekly rate has topped the 750,000 point mark. All this means that we are flogging the [H]orde by over 211,000 points a week which is a great effort by everyone involved. Keep up the great work and come next week its party time.

Giveaway4: One week in.
After one week of the Giveaway we have had 348 nominations. Of those 291 were previously active, 41 were having a break from folding and 16 have seen the light and joined the cause for the first time. 202 have qualified for the draw already after just one week.

Thursday 04/09/03

The summit is in sight: Just 8 days to go.
I have just been thinking about stats and stuff like you do in the quieter moments and wondered how do we compare to other teams on a points per week per active member basis. So after a little bit of number crunching here we go.

You can see we have a clear lead over the [H]orde but we are no where near the top. Just to spice things up a bit, if we take DG and plext out of the equation we still beat the the [H]ardOCP team on points per member output for the past week, 610.3 to 610.1. Now to add even more fuel to the fire, if you take into account the active CPU's each team has. We produce 210 points for each CPU and the [H]orde manage 196 for each active CPU. So what can we make of that, either we have faster processors and know how to overclock them better or perhaps as a team we know how to run Gromac's more than the average [H]ordite does, either way we now know who Folds the hardest out of the 2 teams.

Saturday 06/09/03

The summit is in sight: Groundhog Day-Just 7 days to go.

The [H]orde have made a move in the past 24hrs and stalled the inevitable by one day. For the past 60 days we have outscored the [H]ardOCP by 24,819 points (on average) each day. Our daily score has gone from an average of 71,500 to 110,700 points a day an increase of 39,200, the [H] team have gone from 54,000 to 81,300 points a day an increase of 27,300 points.

Giveaway4: Update

Since the news item midweek we have had another 40 members sign up for the giveaway making a total of 388 nominations with 263 reaching the qualification target of 300 points.

Sunday 07/09/03

The summit is in sight: Just 6 days to go.

I will be away for a few days, I will be back on Wednesday with hopefully "Just 3 days to go".

Wednesday 10/09/03

Giveaway4: Halfway update

Halfway through the Giveaway and we have had 399 nominations with 308 making it to qualification status.

BEAT the BOX: FBOX5
The first week is up and FBOX5 managed to squeeze out 430 points making it tough for 45 nominees who could make it to the 50% level. But good news for the 182 that got get over the 50% level and great news for the 145 nominees that managed to actually Beat the Box.

The summit is in sight: Just 4 days to go.
The [H]orde are proving to be a hard target to knock down and since my little holiday and managed to push out the take over day by one more. Here is a quote from relic of the [H]ardOCP team which sums up the battle for No1 between the 2 teams...

In any battle the point man takes the heat, but remember we're on the same side. [H] had point for a while, now OCAU will. Let's make sure we cover their asses as well as they covered ours.

We'll take point again, I'm sure...but it will be because we worked for it, not because we demoralized our friends.

Not to sure about the last bit though.

Forum Polls:

There are a couple of interesting and popular polls running at the moment in the forums. The first is regarding what you do in the real world.

The second is concerned with ready made folding boxes and who you buy one to sit in the corner and fold for the cause.

The summit is in sight: Just 4 days to go.
Still 4 days to go this morning, those [H]ard nuts are proving hard to crack but we will prevail come Sunday.

Friday 12/09/03

FBOX: Bradman comes out to bat.

Finally FBOX9 (aka Bradman) has a place to call home and the XP2400 is batting away at 2380MHz its batting partners are FBOX10 (Phar Lap) with a XP1800TBredA@1789Mhz and FBOX11 (O'Conner) with a XP1800Pal@1610MHz are up and running to. We still have a 12th man waiting in the pavilion a XP2100TBredB waiting for its turn at the crease once we get a motherboard and some RAM for it. The FBOX page is here and the FBOX donation thread is here

The summit is in sight: Less than 3 days to go.
Chipping away and as I type this we are just 24,993 points behind.

DG the magnificent: 2 million points in the bag

Congratulations goes out to the big fella DG who has just hit the 2 million point milestone, well done mate.

Saturday 13/09/03

The summit is in sight: Less than 2 days to go.

As of 22:00 WST we had 15,369 points left to knock off. As usual the weekend slow down has come into play and the last few points are proving tough to get through.

Sunday 14/09/03

Beat The Box: Tomorrow's draw

Tomorrow's BtB draw will be in the evening around 19:00 WST.

15 million milestone:

Today we passed the 15 million point milestone the same day that the [H]ardOCP team did. We have caught up 1.6 million points in just 2 short months and the last million took just over 8 days to get.

A new client soon:

It looks like a new client will be released soon possibly as early as next week. We have had 3.25 beta for a while now and the guys at Stanford are close to releasing a new client with no doubt a few more changes then we have in the beta.

The summit is in sight: Today is the day.

To celebrate the forth coming conquest of the [H]ardOCP team I would like to introduce FLOGOMETER II for your viewing pleasure. It is a more advanced model of the original FLOGOMETER we had when the oc.com team were threatening us. FLOGOMETER II combines the best features of STATOMETER ULTRA and the original FLOGOMETER to give you a simple to read at a glance that meets today's demanding standards for a OOTBRTUD (Out Of The Box Ready To Use Device).

Anyway on with the show and with less than 10,000 points to go its just a matter of time.

Monday 15/09/03

OCAU No1:The day the folding world was turned upside down.

Well we finally did it, the summit has been reached and what a feeling it is. Congratulations to every member of the Overclockers Australia Folding@Home team, your contributions have helped this team reach the pinnacle of the Folding world. Well done to the [H]ardOCP team for proving the target and inspiration we needed to get to the top, I have no doubt this tussle to be the top team will continue for a long time to come. The overall winner out of this is of course the Folding@Home project and may it continue to prosper for many a year to come.

and a little something from Invictus

A disturbance in the force?
-----------------------

Funny or weird as it was, I woke up very early this morning for no apparent reason.
I was somewhat confused as to why I had woken, and decided to have a drink of water.
No sooner had I picked up the glass, my hands seem to cease functioning and my head swam as I struggled to take hold of the glass before it struck the floor and shattered. I stood looking at the glass on the floor, feeling more confused and fully awake as the short panic of attempting to catch the falling glass had shaken off all lethargic feelings.
I shook my head in chastisement and disbelief, and casually glanced at my watch. A little after 4am.
After meticulously cleaning up the shards of glass, and finally achieving my goal of having a drink of water, I returned to bed, and promptly fell asleep again.
About midday, I checked the OCAU website, for an update on the race to reach the number position in the team ranks, and found that OCAU had overtaken its rival [H]ardOCP during the night.
The first posts made by people reporting that OCAU had indeed moved into the number one position, were made .... a little after 4am.

Beat The Box: The redraw winner of FBOX5 is...

Bort has decided not to accept FBOX5 because he wasn't sure that he could guarantee that it would be folding 24/7 for the long term. I think we should congratulate Bort for being so honest and thinking about the team ahead of his own needs.

So back into the ring it goes and...

Flogometer II: More records tumble.

Yesterday we had our highest every 24 hour production with 124,030 points. We also gave the oc.com team their worst ever day flogging of 57,974 points. On the [H]ardOCP side of things they were flogged to the tune of 23,037 points which takes us to a lead of 78,142 points after 4 days. Welcome to all the new members that have joined us in the past few days. We have 41 new faces on the team and what is very pleasing is the increase in active members which has rocketed up to 880 this morning from less than 800 two weeks ago.

Extreme stats back: Briefly

The stats came back up this morning for a short period of time, long enough for me to do about 50 Folding Club promotions. Lets hope they get back up again soon.
