XbitLabs have a DDR3 SDRAM roundup for LGA 2011. LGA 2011 platform is the first desktop platform supporting quad-channel architecture. And while LGA 1155 and LGA 1366 platform didn’t seem to seriously depend on the memory frequency and timings, now things can change dramatically. It must have been for a good reason that Intel enabled its new platform to officially support higher memory frequencies and even allowed memory overclocking.

A few people sent in this Slashdot link about Govt backdoors in smartphones. In a tweet early this morning, cybersecurity researcher Christopher Soghoian pointed to an internal memo of India's Military Intelligence that has been liberated by hackers and posted on the Net. The memo suggests that, "in exchange for the Indian market presence" mobile device manufacturers, including RIM, Nokia, and Apple (collectively defined in the document as "RINOA") have agreed to provide backdoor access on their devices.

Kraft have had another marketing brainwave, temporarily renaming Vegemite to "Australia". But the reaction from the Australian public to Kraft’s latest marketing campaign is yet to be seen. The last time Kraft decided to experiment with Vegemite, launching the ill-fated ‘iSnack 2.0’ product, it lasted only five days on the shelves before it was met with huge public backlash for daring to play with the national brand. Exactly - if something is that iconic, don't mess with it.

HotHardware have a midtower case roundup. It’s been a while since our last case roundup--a long while, actually--so it’s high time we did another. We take a look at a slew of (mostly) mid tower cases on the following pages, including the Antec Eleven Hundred, the Corsair Carbide 400R and 500R, the NZXT Source 220, and Thermaltake Chaser MK-I, each designed for a slightly different consumer.

Researchers at UNSW have made super-fine wiring. At just four atoms wide and one atom tall, the silicon wiring unveiled by experts at the University of NSW (UNSW) on Friday is the slimmest ever made and is tipped to take the computer industry places it's never been before. It is 10,000 times thinner than human hair but retains all the electrical conducting properties of traditional copper wiring.

TechSpot have a guide to enabling concurrent desktop sessions in Windows. However, there are a few reasons why concurrent sessions would come in handy for power users not necessarily running a server. For example, if you have a dedicated Media Center PC running in the living room, you'll be able to remotely access all files on the machine without interrupting the person watching TV. Or if you are sharing a computer with other users, concurrent Remote Desktop sessions will allow more than one person use that system under a different or even the same user account, without kicking each other off.

Gunna sent in this video of the ultimate iPad case demonstration, free-falling from 100,000 feet and surviving the impact. In the video, the iPad is lifted to over 100,000 feet by a weather balloon which bursts at altitude, then releasing the iPad to free-fall to Earth where it crash lands on a rocky hillside in the Nevada countryside. Perhaps even more remarkable than the dramatic hi-def footage itself is the fact that the iPad survives the adventure, remaining fully functional.

Today's timewaster is Home Sheep Home 2 from biatch.
