MSI's Master Overclocking Arena 2012 is on soon, and there's two Australian teams competing. There is a predict the champion competition being held by MSI, as the name suggests you predict who you think will win the competition and go in the draw to win a MSI Z77 MPOWER mobo.

Meanwhile Gigabyte have a Classic Challenge II contest. Open from September 1st through September 30th 2012, the GIGABYTE Classic Challenge II combines two exciting stages based on classic 3DMark01 and SuperPi 31M benchmarks. The overclocker with the highest points tally from both rounds will win a recently announced GIGBAYTE Z77X-UP7, with a 2nd place finish earning a GIGABYTE Z77X-UP5. Another Z77X-UP7 will be awarded as a lucky draw prize that anybody entering the competition may win; multiple submissions are allowed and will all be eligible for the lucky draw.

PC gamers will be happy to hear that Ubisoft seem to be scrapping their always-on DRM system. In fact, they quietly scrapped it months ago, but haven’t made that official until now. In what is a really remarkable turnaround, the publisher pledges that from now on they will only require a single online activation after installing, with no activation limits, nor limits on how many PCs it may be activated.

Check out this cool acoustic touch screen idea. Technical details: The waveforms coming from the accelerometer are matched against a library of waveforms collected during calibration. The calibration point with the best match (according to a cross-correlation of the two waveforms) determines where the click is positioned on the screen.

There's an Internet Governance Forum in Canberra in October. Talks and discussions are framed around our key themes: openness and privacy; access; and security. Australia's Attorney-General has been examining Identity Security. In June 2012 the Attorney-General’s Department commissioned a second annual nation-wide survey into issues relating to identity theft. The survey sought to enquire into the level of concern, incidence and type of identity theft experienced by Australians. The research repeats a similar survey conducted in July 2011. It shows that nearly a quarter of respondents had been, or knew someone, that had been a victim of identity crime in the last six months.
