An international operation has seen the shutdown of those I am calling you from Windows tech-support scammers - or so it's claimed. Australia was the first country to be hit by the Microsoft tech support scam in a fraud operation that spanned the globe. In 2009, the phone rang at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). It was someone calling to complain. Not a new thing for the ACMA, but this was the start of something big.

I'm a little dubious because I got called by one of them only a couple of days ago. ArsTechnica did too, and had a bit of a play with the guy for a while. When the call came yesterday morning, I assumed at first I was being trolled - it was just too perfect to be true. My phone showed only "Private Caller" and, when I answered out of curiosity, I was connected to "John," a young man with a clear Indian accent who said he was calling from "Windows Technical Support."

Overclockers.com have a report on EVGA removing voltage control from their GTX680 at NVIDIA's request. From this quote, it’s obvious that NVIDIA does not want their partners to supply any means of voltage control with the GK100 series of GPUs. This is a slap in the face to many of the enthusiasts and everyday overclockers who enjoy pushing hardware for that extra performance. That leaves the extreme, warranty-voiding modders that hardmod their GPUs with the ability to increase voltage for the Kepler cards and have a stress-free overclocking experience.

Gunna spotted this iPhone-controlled door lock. Lockitron is an attachment you can place on the back of any deadbolt lock in your house that allows you to lock and unlock it remotely via your smartphone. Better than that, if you have your iPhone 5 in your pocket when you approach a Lockitron deadbolt, you don’t have to even have to use your iPhone because it will detect you via Bluetooth 4.0 and unlock automatically.

Carl sent in a Tech Report article about Intel's pricing stagnating while AMD struggles. Competition is the cornerstone of a free market. Without healthy competition, unchallenged incumbents grow complacent, the pace of innovation slows, and prices either stagnate or rise. Those ill effects can be witnessed across a number of industries, but over the past few years, they've become increasingly apparent in the x86 processor market.

Check out this cool automated warehouse setup. If I had a billion dollars I'd get one of those systems and put everything I own in it, so I wouldn't spend half my life looking for my shoes, my phone or my flippin' car keys. Reliable! AutoStore has a high degree of redundancy. Space Efficient! AutoStore makes better use of available area and volume than any other system (by up to 60%).
