Something of interest to geeky revheads from JimmyTheKidd: Newcastle based company ELMOFO showcased their Electric Radical SREV at Sydney Motorsport Park last weekend setting a new electric lap record with John Bowe behind the wheel. The electric motor produces 400hp and 600nm of torque from 0 RPM. With a bit more track development time its expected to be right up there with the V8 powered SR8 making it one of the fastest electric cars around. The car will be on display at Motorex in Sydney this weekend. Video of the lap here, OCAU discussion thread here.

NASA are trying to determine the source of a worrying flooded helmet during a spacewalk. Parmitano, Italy's first and only spacewalker, could not hear or speak by the time he re-entered the space station on Tuesday, 1˝ hours after stepping out. He also had difficulty seeing because of the big globs of water in his helmet and elsewhere in his suit.

The EFF are leading a group suing the NSA to stop widespread surveillance. A group of 19 consumer and privacy groups today sued the National Security Agency (NSA), arguing that the agency's data collection processes violate the law and the Constitution. Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook and others want more transparency in how the US Government requests information from them.

The EFF are also among many tech giants calling for patent reform. Today EFF joins a coalition of 50 organizations to send a letter to Congress urging the legislature to focus on finding—and passing—effective solutions to patent abuse. This letter brings together a strikingly diverse group of companies—including retailers, application developers, and financial services institutions—as well as public interest organizations like Public Knowledge and EFF. Together, we call on Congress to take immediate action to curb destructive patent troll litigation.

Samsung's new SSDs include an entry-level 1TB model and a super-fast 3000MB/s enterprise model, thanks scon. Hitting these absurd numbers isn't without a caveat, though, as this SSD won't run on a SATA-6 port -- it requires a PCIe hookup. When these speed demons do arrive, they'll be available in 400GB, 800GB and 1.6TB sizes. Oh, and we want one. For business.

Google Glass hackers are expanding its capabilities, in ways not always approved by Google. Then, I wait for a signal that Google Glass has recognized my face. It isn't supposed to do that, but has hacked it. "Essentially what I am building is an alternative operating system that runs on Glass but is not controlled by Google," he said.

Bill Gates thinks digital assistants are a big part of the future. “We’re in a golden age of computer science” that’s finally making possible, after years of discussion by him and others in the industry, “that idea of the powerful assistant that can help us get things done that can give us deep insights,” Gates said.

TomsHardware have a sneak preview of the Ivy Bridge-E Intel Core i7-4960X. Disclaimer: The following preview is based on an early engineering sample Core i7-4960X. Intel was not involved in the story, and was not asked for comment prior to its publication. In fact, starting with our Haswell preview, the company started a policy of excluding us from certain discussions. So yeah. There’s always more of that to look forward to.
