Australians are still being swindled by online scammers, unfortunately. OVERSEAS con artists have swindled West Australians out of $2 million in just five days. Among the 24 victims who contacted WA Scamnet between August 5 and 9 was a man aged in his seventies who lost one million dollars in a romance scam.

But it's not all bad news, with Australian scientists coming up with hangover-proof beer. Associate Professor Ben Desbrow said, “Of the four different beers the subjects consumed, our augmented light beer was by far the most well retained by the body, meaning it was the most effective at re-hydrating the subjects.”

Google fell over for two minutes late last week, taking 40% of worldwide net traffic with it. But then, not everyone is Google. According to web analytics firm GoSquared, worldwide internet traffic dipped by a stunning 40 per cent during the brief minutes that the Chocolate Factory's services were offline.

Rockstar have announced GTA Online with a trailer video. Grand Theft Auto Online is a persistent multiplayer open world game, full of excitement and adventure at every turn. It's not just gun heists and carjacking these days... jump out of planes over beautiful vistas or arm wrestle a gangster in the back alley, it's all up to you. What path will you take? Windows XP is refusing to die despite dire warnings from Microsoft. Microsoft yesterday warned Windows XP customers that they face never-patched, never-dead "zero-day" vulnerabilities if they don't dump the 12-year-old operating system before its April 2014 retirement deadline. Call them the "walking dead" of vulnerabilities. Call it XP Z -- "Z" for zombies.

IntelInside spotted classified documents confirming that Area 51 exists. The CIA has officially acknowledged the secret US test site known as Area 51, in a newly unclassified internal history of the U-2 spy plane programme. The document obtained by a US university describes the 1955 acquisition of the Nevada site for testing of the secret spy plane. More here.
