A SA independent senator is calling for the next federal government to crack down on internet trolls, asking for an social media ombudsmen to be appointed. HDMI 2.0 is now officially announced, and has some pretty nice speeds. With a bandwidth capacity of up to 18Gbps, it has enough room to carry 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at up to 60fps. It also has support for up to 32 audio channels, "dynamic auto lipsync" and additional CEC extensions.
The Intel Atom C2000-series 'Avoton' processors have been unveiled, with Techreport taking a closer look at the innards of the new chip. Although Avoton is based on a low-power CPU core, its mission is not to power a new generation of mobile devices. Intel has another SoC, code-named Bay Trail, for that market. Instead, Avoton is aimed at various spots in the data center where Intel's Xeon processors are either too big or too expensive to serve.
The C2000 chip series is part of a series of unveils, with Intel releasing new technology for more efficient cloud datacenters, more to read on that here.
Over in China, two DRAM production facilities have been destroyed, causing one third of the worlds DRAM production to stop. The fires began around 0750 GMT during a routine install of equipment and quickly spread to other production facilities. While the fire damage was contained within two hours, massive smoke damage throughout both facilities caused the most damage. An official press release from the company can be read here. There's an interesting read on why AMD has been shifting processors, and where it may be headed. Right now AMD’s APUs are doing “ok” in desktops and are gaining traction in mobile applications. What most people do not realize is that AMD will be going all APU all the time in the very near future.
A Google Maps search record has been used as evidence in a murder trial, with claims it was planted. (FBI) Special Agent (Greg) Johnson and Detective (Chris) Chappell testified that the temporary internet files recovered from the laptop indicated someone conducted a Google Map search on the laptop at approximately 1:15 p.m. on 11 July, (2008) the day before Ms. Cooper was murdered. They concluded that this search was done by someone using the laptop while it was at the Cisco office where Defendant worked.
