The big news story of the weekend is the massive ransomware attack sweeping the world. The UK's National Health Service was heavily disrupted, as were FedEx, the German train service and many others. So far there doesn't appear to be much impact in Australia. Interestingly, the spread was slowed by an accidental hero who registered a domain which triggered the malware to deactivate. One annoying aspect of all this is that it seems to use an exploit known to the NSA and kept secret for their own purposes.
There's a guide to protecting yourself here on Wordfence, with info on new variants of the ransomware. In short: make sure you are up to date with your Windows patches.
This issue is being discussed here in our Current Events forum and here in our Business & Enterprise Computing forum.
