The current "Retro Let's Play" is Cave Story from 2004. The game itself sees the main character Quote awaken on a strange island, filled with caves, and you begin exploring. Equipped with a basic blaster, you must explore the island and discover all of its secrets. Gameplay is classic, fast-paced side-scrolling platform, shooting and exploration, with plenty of back tracking and secrets to discover, including multiple characters and endings. The game would initially be released for free on Windows, and the original version would get free ports to Mac, Amiga, Linux, Sega Megadrive/Genesis and even the TI Graphing Calculator! It's a freeware game, so there's Windows (and many other) downloads linked in the thread. Thanks elvis!
