Sudhian have an editorial where they claim if you're not running a dual system, you're not really a hardware enthusiast. After reading this many of you will go on continuing to call yourself a hardware enthusiast, but you are not. Well gee, I spose I'd better shut the website down then. Oh, but wait, I own four dual systems.. I just don't see the benefits outweighing the cost for a desktop machine - and that's after having a dual box as my main desktop machine for over a year. Frankly, I think enthusiast SMP died with the P3. We still see the occasional hardcore guy forking out the cash for dual Xeons or a dual socketA motherboard, but nothing like the armies of BP6 / VP6 / 694D owners from a couple of years ago. Anyway, end rant - I've just been thinking about this stuff lately for an article I'm writing for APC mag.
A few people pointed out this cloaking technology clothing. Sadly, for the moment it needs a special viewfinder to work, so it's not going to fool passers-by.
Jamie notes that HardOCP are saying the GeForceFX is canned rumours are probably true. I wouldn't do anything drastic until we hear something official from NVIDIA, but it's not like you can rush out and buy them just yet anyway. GeForceZone have a Q&A session with Gainward about their card.
Apparently Linux dominates the movie industry now, thanks Isometrix.
TheInq say HyperThreading 2 will be a feature of the upcoming Prescott processors, thanks Rave.
Silly website name of the week would have to be DigitalFerret.com.. who have reviewed some case fans and a Cold Cathode kit.
Xbit compared the QuadroFX and ATI FireGL X1 professional graphics cards in 3DS Max 5.
spg spotted a demo of Black Hawk Down available on AusGamers. A helicopter crashing simulator perhaps? While we're talking of wholesome quality entertainment, I notice they have a Bikini Karate Babes demo too. Phil points out the BF1942 Linux Server available for download as well.
Chris says floppies are on the way out, finally.. but he couldn't resist pointing out that Apple shipped floppy-free computers in 1998.
