Arjuna sent this Whirlpool link in. It seems that Telstra are planning to offer those customers with ANT-1 services the chance to move to a real copper line. This will allow access to ADSL for many people who currently can't get it. A good move!
Several people sent this in. Federal Police have raided ISPs in Australia seeking information about the identities of customers in relation to alleged music piracy. It seems a bit heavy handed to me, but I suppose I am not the one who has to make up for out of date marketing techniques. Thats the record companies job!
While we are talking Telstra, their ADSL and Cable customers (not dialup) can smile for a while as Telstra has re-introduced it's file server. Downloads from the file server do not count against your monthly data allowance. Yay! Thanks Bern.
The Federal Government is taking steps to prevent Internet porn from making its way into Australia. They're current approach is to force ISPs to do the filtering of all overseas content that comes their way. I'm sure they will try and fail several times before they have anywhere near the success they are looking for.
