Sunday Night (3 Comments) (link)

A bit of broadband news to start with, with Optus and Telstra close to finalising a deal for DSL, apparently including some performance guarantees. "Optus is understood to have insisted on a series of network performance hurdles, which, if not met, would result in financial compensation to the company". Interesting. More information here. Thanks Ashpool.

Telstra have also announced their "New Look Bigpond" broadband, but have decided not to reduce prices or increase download quotas. Read more on Whirlpool. More information here and here. There's also a forum thread on Whirlpool where you can have your say. Thanks to bigbud120.

CDRInfo have had a look at some DVD burners, media and players to try to get a handle on format compatibility. DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+/-R? What does it all mean? Read more here.

_FuSiOnItE_ sent in a couple of links to some very interesting information regarding RAM timing. Is lower timing not always faster? I did some very quick and non-scientific testing earlier today, and it seems that 7,3,2,2 is indeed slightly quicker than 6,3,2,2 on my system. More information here.

A very bizarre and slightly worrying episode of Weebl & Bob here. Thanks SiliconAngel. I think!

Mystery processes, refresh rates, projectors, DIY LEDs and stick on mobile phone antennas. These topics (and more) are tackled by Dan, as he answers his 54th installment of Dan's letters.

Virtual-Hideout have built a custom case around a VIA Mini-ITX EPIA motherboard. Rather schmick if you like that kind of thing, though for some reason I can't stop thinking about Sandman Panelvans when I read through that article.

Want to unlock your Athlon but don't want to modify your CPU? You may be interested in this adapter that can take the hard work out of unlocking. Comes with a heatsink from Cooljag (due to the different clearance required). Thanks Stmok.

From tonight's "whoa" file, the actor who played Mini-Me in the Austin Powers movies is set to wed his 6'2" yoga-instructor girlfriend. Nothing to do with IT (I don't think!), but I couldn't resist. Hrrmm, I think I'll leave it at that.

To round things out tonight, if you have some spare download quota and feel like watching another HalfLife 2 movie, Cypher sent in this link to a new one, called "Kleiner's Lab".
