I dunno who Intel are trying to kid, but now the word is that RAMBUS is for desktop systems only, while big-ass servers should be using DDR SDRAM. Right. At AUD$1,800 for 128MB, I can see myself sticking a RAMBUS-based box on my desk any day now. This has all come about because Intel have announced that Foster, the server version (Xeon?) of their Willamette processor, will use DDR SDRAM. More info here.
Also, Tom's Hardware takes a look at RAMBUS and realises, just as everyone else did some months ago, that it's really expensive and slow.
