New Forums are GO! (0 Comments) (link)
 Thursday, 18-May-2000  22:05:14 (GMT +10) - by Agg

Ok, the testing has gone spectacularly well, all the technical issues are resolved. Next week I will be moving the domain from the old Zip server to the new server (hosted with vservers.com in the US). This is how the forums will work during the transition:

- The UBB forums are currently at a temporary address on nightmachines.net (my testing domain), here:
http://www.nightmachines.net/cgi-bin/oc/ubb/Ultimate.cgi
- The address you're used to going to the forums at, "www.overclockers.com.au/forums" will point to the NEW forums on the new server. This will be the same place as the nightmachines.net address, the same data that is there now.
- The current (old) forums will be available on the new server at a different address. These will be READ ONLY, for archival purposes. All the old data will be there except for the trading forums which will be restarted from scratch. There will probably be a period of a couple of days between the domain moving to the new server and the old forum archive coming online, because there are technical issues to be resolved there. The new forums will of course be available immediately (they are available now and being used quite a bit already).

What does this mean for you?

- From now on, please post new threads to the NEW forums at their temporary nightmachines.net address here. This is so that your threads will be alive in the future. If you start a new thread in the old forums now, it will be unavailable for a couple of days and then it will be read only! So make the transition now!
- Old threads can continue in the old forums but be aware that sometime next week they will vanish for a couple of days and then become read only.

FORUM REGULARS: I would appreciate it if you could make this clear to other folks in the forums, there will be a lot of people who don't realise. I will post this message to each forum but I'm sure people won't see/read/understand. Don't be rude, just gently advise they should move their thread to the new forums for a better chance of a response. Thanks guys!
