Friday (the 13th) evening..... (0 Comments) (link)
 Friday, 13-October-2000  23:48:50 (GMT +10) - by Manaz

Big night for news tonight.

Apparently Free.Net have shut down 2 days early - they were due to cease operations on the 15th of this month, but are apparently down already. Thanks for KngtRider for for this info.

TweakHardware have posted an article, describing how to hack an A7V to give it ATA-100 RAID support. Thanks to Wolfy for the heads-up.

Trevor has pointed out that Abit are releasing a Slot-1 motherboard based on the Intel i815E chipset. It is called the SH6 (there's a link on the Abit page). EDIT Jarl pointed out that the Slot-1 i815E board as actually the SH6, not the SA6R as I originally posted. Thanks. :)

Netkills has a guide to running a successful LAN party.. which turns out to just be a bit of blurb about a party he went to recently.

Fancy a Twiddler? Would you like to know what a Twiddler is before you answer that? Check out this site for more information on wearable computers (or at least components). Thanks to Mr Bill for this link, and also for the next two...

Impress PC Watch (a Japanese site) have a picture of a Canopus GeForce2 Ultra video card. Considering the reputation Canopus had when they made Voodoo and Voodoo2 video cards (I had a Pure3D, a Voodoo card with 6MB of RAM - the most any other card had was 4MB), it would be VERY interesting to see what sort of nVidia-based card they could produce. Check the end of the card - as Mr Bill pointed out, it looks like a Molex power connector. They also have a story (in Japanese, but the pictures are rather universally readable) about Maxtor's recently released 80GB Firewire hard drives. Looking at that pic of the Canopus video card closely, it looks like the Copyright notice says 1999. Interesting for a supposed GeForce2 Ultra. Cheers sabretooth for your help there....

GeoffD has turned some junk into some treasure. Check out his X-Wing computer case.

GamingIn3D have 11 (yes, eleven) CoolPC Pluses to give away. You can enter the competition to win one here.

Tom's Hardware have posted the second article in their coverage of the 2000 Microprocessor Forum.

GA-Hardware have posted an interview with Jason Della Rocca, who is currently the Program Director of the International Game Developers Association, but who has previously, amongst other places, worked for Matrox.

The Tech Zone looks at a dual 1GHz (overclocked 700MHz processors) system, benchmarks it, drools over it, and, well, go look!
