Dodgy CPU's (0 Comments) (link)
 Sunday, 12-November-2000  21:06:20 (GMT +10) - by Agg

Andrew had some interesting info:

Greetings,

would just like to get a warning out to all those of you who like buying parts at markets around australia. Warranty at these places can be a little dodgy so it pays to roll up informed.

Celeron 400 slot 1 CPUs are being sold of late. But they arent!!!!

they have a really convincing painted on marking

L9025430 SL37Z
400/100 MALAYSIA

except when you scrape of the very matt( almost liquid paper finish paint) you find the original expoxy-gloss paint with SL2TR COSTA RICA.

They are old Celeron 266s with no L2 cache.........

cunning buggers!!! will attempt to "service" warranty this week 8-)

Hmm, dodgy. The Slot1 C400 should be a dead giveaway, I don't think Intel made the Slot1 cellies above 300, did they? UPDATE: Eagle-eyed readers pointed out that the Slot1 Cellies continued right up until the 433MHz part.
