Thursday afternoon... still damn hot outside. (0 Comments) (link)

Benchtest.com has been fooling with the idea of using a "heatpipe" to transfer heat efficently. Very sciency, ie: way over my head, but a very good article, they even doing some cutting and soldering!

VR-Zone has played around with a Pentium 4, and have got the goods on how to mod it so you can set a higher voltage. I'm leaning towards filing this under "Theoretical" because I'm not even sure P4's exist. [Agg Update: Yes they do, Scibs (removes rock you've been hiding under :) )]

All the tv news shows were carrying footage of the new Airbus 3xx over the last couple of nights, here's a bucketload of words on the huge aircraft from Wired.com. Where are they going to fit the 20mm cannons, that's what I want to know.

Whilst we're at Wired, you might want to check out their take on the whole Nvidia-3dfx deal.

Way back when, I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D on a 386dx40, Powermachine™ of day. Now we've got Athlon 1.2ghz monsters and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This is looking seriously sexy, but will it take as long as Duke Nukem Forever? Eh? Well, I don't know, but check out that flamethrower. If it's animated well, we'll be in BBQ heaven.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... er... Tech Extreme, we've got a review of the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick. Good timing, I'm on the lookout for a new one... they've still got that scary Santa face picture though. *whimper*

Apparently Oracle's still exist and didn't die out thousands of years ago, because Tech-Report has got one. He should be able to help with your pc problems, but probably not with that strange growth on the back of your thigh. See a doctor.

Before we leave Tech-Report behind though (and before you run off with a prescription for topical cream), they're having another crack at Apple. It's just perpetuating the PC vs Apple war, which will never be resolved. Oh, and on a side note, I don't care how fast PC's get over Apple's, Windows will make sure the pc's always bluescreen faster. ;)

Soundcard Central is a newish soundcard website. I'm not sure, but I think it's run by beach bum geeks, or ex-surfies-turned-geek as evidenced by the large wave-cd logo thingy. Pretty. Anyway, not a bad website. Check it out.

Finally, Anandtech has introduced a newcomer to the gargantuan powerstruggle that is the Value Chipset Arena. (that'd make a good FPS title, John Carmack, Cliffy B, call me, we'll do lunch.) The feisty young newcomer is the VIA KM133 Socket-A chipset. Will it succeed and rise to glory? Or will it fall and become crowbait? Er... *ahem*... too much Gladiator for me.
