Saturday afternoon... quick update, then off to a bbq. *wheee!* (0 Comments) (link)

Wow, Seti@home is getting geared up to power on all their backend servers and start processing all the data that we people at home have been crunching for them. They're going to be looking over positions in space that have set off alarms more than once or twice. The story is here and you can help out both the human race and the OC/AU race by joining the OC/AU Seti@home team. If you don't have a Seti@home client, check out the offical homepage

I'm all for large chucks of metal getting rid of that nasty, nasty heat: I've got some nice big heatsinks, with fans that can julienne-cut a potato in 3 seconds, but The Captain Insane-o Socket A heatsink is just stupid. IMHO, that top middle fan is going to do very little that far above the heatsink, and having one fan blowing into another won't make the air come out twice as fast. *mutters something about smp* Agg hoped this thing was a joke... I don't think it is. I could go on about this all afternoon, but best if I don't methinks...

It's been a little while since we last heard from the FMD (Fluorescent Multilayer Disc), and it looks like we're getting closer, check this story out. I don't know about you guys, but I have a feeling FMD's are going to be rather big, if not the Next Big Thing in a little while. After all, look at cd-rom's and dvd's, they're even in consoles now. Gone are the days of cartridges and floppy disk games. Thank god. Thanks to Kase for the link, you crazy lil' RMIT guy you.

Here's a couple of things handed to us by Michael Anderson (Thanks Mikey, you're a helluvaguy)... Egghead.Com (?) has been hacked into, and the hackers seem to have stolen a large number of credit card numbers... It looks like Intel has decided not to rush ahead with McKinley and Itanic processors, instead they're continuing with their pilot programs, The Register has the goss...

Now stuff like this annoys me and my sense of doing whatever the hell I want with my computer. The latest mindless idea is to introduce media copy protection directly into a harddrive, even before you've purchased it. Thanks to kloster64, I think.

Hmmm, you don't see many motherboard-specific FAQ's (Aside from the ones on the manufacturer's support site. The ones that are written by someone who uses english as their tenth language), but Athlon MB has written an Asus A7V faq, full of all the info you need, if you own an A7V that is. Useless to everyone else, but there you go.

Ooooh, it's a tiny, tiny harddrive! I want one! It's an IBM 1gb Microdrive, and it's been reviewed by those busy beavers, Apu's Hardware.
