Well.. I *was* hoping to save myself from doing the news tomorrow morning by doing the news tonight.. However, because I did that same thing last night.. it didn't work. News box is chockas.. so here's half of it, expect another half whenever I regain conciousness tomorrow morning.
First off tonight is Dan.. he's written an verrrrry long article about watercooling, more specifically the infinipro kit. I must warn you tho, a hammer was harmed in the production of his article.. that's still illegal in Tasmania you know. Poor Dan.. time is limited.. soon he'll be dodging spring shrapnel and obtuse screws in prison.
Chillblast have reviewed the Coolermaster EP5-6III.. a rather bland looking okish performing heatsink, but nonetheless is AMD certified for 1.33GHz. Starting to wonder what's with the flood of bland looking heatsinks lately.. are manufacturers turning away from the flashy-and-good-performing design as we reach the limits of air cooling? Or are more webmasters just desperate for stuff to review.
WildAndyC has reviewed a full computer system. Not something we'd normally link to, but I've only done it to point out where it's lacking.. I mean, a 1.2GHz AMD system with an MX video card? and 128Mb of RAM? Who can pick the cost cutting.. it's pretty obvious they've built it to a CPU clock speed. *shakes head*
NeoN of PCMonkey has decided that he's better off spending his time poking fun at the PC hardware scene than participating in the race to be the first to review a new piece of hardware before anyone else does... the site is marginally humerous, so it's probably worth taking a look at.
Digit-Life have reviewed a MiSEL MPJuke-2000.. a discman MP3 CD thingo.. I reckon the major problem with this type of product is all of them are lacking the sony-esque quality of portable cd players.. Those creative ones however, are definatley not half bad. Not half-bad at all..
HardAvenue have crawled out of nowhere to review a Hercules KyroII 64Mb card.. no idea where they managed to get the card from - but good work Nza.. good to see you back and reviewing stuff thats current :)
There's a pretty neat idea, more of an article really, that's been posted on the Hard OCP Forums.. and that's running the coolant in your water cooling system through a shower head and letting it fall.. cooling the water as it does. No doubt about it working, it's dropped temps as much as 7deg in some instances.. but what worries me is having your coolant interact with the air in the atmosphere.. IMHO it'll give you alot of gunk in your system, increase chances of corrosion and all that.
If you're thinking of adding or replacing some LED's to your mod'd case (or keyboard or mouse or whatever), then TweakMax have a decent review of all the different types of LED's.. like ultra-bright blue, white, yellow, etc.. definitely a handy thing to go and have a read of.
Tech-Report have gone into great detail with their review of the the new Intel P4 1.7GHz.. nothing's changed, except for a new clock speed.. no core updates or anything. Still, as pointed out in the first reviews of the P4, it's longer instruction pipeline means that what it needed was to quickly ramp up in speed.. and 200MHz is a fair old jump.. remember when 16MHz was a big one?
Anand also has his review of the P4 1.7Ghz up, albeit not going into as much detail as TR did.. they also have an editorial concering the Graphics Card industry at the moment.. quite cut-throat it is.
[rant] Incidently.. one thing thats really starting to confuse me is the huge mass that alot of people seem to think is required with a review these days. Anand's P4 review includes 3 different processor architectures, and no less than five different motherboards. That's good, as it gives them a broad spectrum on which to test.. but I havn't got the patience to look at five pages of benchmarks.. I don't doubt the usefulness of benchmarks in determining how good (or bad) a peice of hardware is in regard to another peice of hardware (even tho some may not show the true story.. GF3/DX8 comes to mind), but what's with all the graphs? I don't even load them.. I click right through. Be interesting for to see what how many users do the same thing as well.. I may be correct in guessing that the extensive benchmarks many reviews go into now are just a waste of time and bandwith. Or maybe they're not. Anyway.. [/rant]
Finally tonight, just to weird you out.. ZZZ Online #80 is out!
