3DMark2001 Second Edition! (0 Comments) (link)
 Thursday, 14-February-2002  18:06:58 (GMT +10) - by Agg

A heap of people (Creative first, I think) pointed out that 3DMark2001 SE has been released. This is apparently a new version with new graphics.

Support for Microsoft DirectX®8.1. A new DirectX8.1 feature test showing Vertex Shaders & Pixel Shaders 1.4. Fully tested and supported under Windows® XP. Featuring 3 game tests plus a 4th game test using DirectX®8.0 hardware accelerated features. Directx8.0 feature tests showing Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders 1.1 and Point Sprites. DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping tests. Support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression. Optimizations for the latest Intel® and AMD® processors. Two game tests use Ipion real-time physics An awesome demo which features an original soundtrack and is guaranteed to push your system to its outermost limits.

The official mirrors are listed here but I had a lot of trouble finding one that worked. When I eventually did (in Brasil no less but the file is in English) I made a mirror here so you guys don't have to go digging. Should be faster than any international mirrors for you, too. It's 42MB so dialup people (like me) beware!

OCAU 3DMark2001 SE Mirror

If you can't wait for it to download, OCPrices and Tweakers have articles about it.

Garry had a problem with it saying he needed MMX (on an Athlon CPU, which obviously does have MMX), but found a solution: The problem seems to be solved on A7M266 motherboards with a simple BIOS upgrade, you need at least 1005A BIOS to run 3DMARK2001 SE! People that are using an XP processor will already have this BIOS version so they won't have the problem. If like me you own an older Tbird Athlon, you need to flash to 1005A but you must also change the S2K slew rate setting in the BIOS to 3. If you don't the PC will crash at any speed over 1GHz.
