Well, it was a big night in the forums last night. I had an ulterior motive for posting those "interesting threads" on the newspage - I wanted to make the usual Monday-night forum spike as big as possible to gauge the effect of PHP Accelerator which I have recently installed, after talking to Eva2000 our resident PHP/MySQL expert. PHP Accelerator is a pre-compiler for PHP scripts which reduces system load and page build times - note that the time at the bottom of this page won't shrink because that only starts counting after the script is compiled. Anyway, the old "Users currently online" record in the forums was 344 people.. we screamed past that, right up to a whopping 404 users at 10:22pm. Server load was not alarmingly high and the forums felt only a touch slower on my dialup connection. Hooray for Thor! Of course, thanks also to AusGamers, our kickass host.

Also, as Sabretooth spotted, we had our 10,000th member sign up (again.. ahem). The actual 10,000th was obviously a fake account :) so I think the real honour goes to "tastymick".

Check this PC out - it uses the frame of the custom case as a reservoir for water-cooling. If that doesn't impress you, you may as well put your PC into a toilet.. thanks Dexter.

Talking_goat spotted this laptop with GeForce4 440 Go.. just a preview article so no benchmarks sadly, but hints at some very decent portable graphics.

Xizor notes an interesting auction.. a super-grunty PC and the gold master CD of DivX 5.0 when it comes out.

Zoltrix spotted someone proving that AthlonXP's run hot enough to fry an egg.. literally.

Hoe found some people using liquid nitrogen.. but not for cooling.. what a waste. :)

3DVelocity have taken a trip back in time and are playing with SlotA Overclocking. In case you missed the whole SlotA thing, I wrote an article at the end of their era called SlotA Showdown which covered the different types of SlotA CPU's etc.

AnandTech have an article about Intel's E7500 Chipset: Dual Channel DDR for Xeon.

Christian spotted this nice cartoon in memory of Chuck Jones, Warner Bros cartoonist who died recently.
