OCAU Wiki (29 Comments) (link)
 Saturday, 16-July-2005  10:42:43 (GMT +10) - by Agg

Some of you already know about this because it's been mentioned in the forums, but not "officially" launched on the newspage. Anyway, OCAU now has a Wiki!

What's a Wiki?
It's a bit like a forum, but anyone with an account can add or edit pages in it. So it's more like a database of individual documents. If you spot something that's incorrect, or that you know more about, you can change the document easily.

Why do we want a Wiki?
Well, a Wiki is a lot better way to handle certain things than a forum. For example, a FAQ in the forum could only be updated by admins or the original poster. In a Wiki, anyone can update it.

What will be in OCAU's Wiki?
Primarily it will be used to create a FAQ for the forums, which can be maintained and updated by the forum members. We also have a decent Glossary of computing terms in progress. In fact, you can add anything you want, really. If you have a particular hobby you want to explain, or a guide/article you want to write up, the Wiki is the perfect place to put it.

How do I add to it?
Anyone with an OCAU Forums account can log into the Wiki. Once you're logged in, to update a page simply click the "Edit" tab. To add a new page, edit another page and add a link to your new page's name, which will turn into a link to edit your new page. Or, you can simply put your page title on the end of the Wiki URL and the system will prompt you to edit the new page.

It can be a bit confusing at first, so feel free to ask questions in the Comments thread for this post.
