OCAU quietly passed its 6th birthday a few days ago. Happy birthday us!
If you're into Google Maps, check out the huge list of Australian Google Maps Locations in our Wiki, and do some virtual sightseeing. Be warned, severe time suckage may result!
Von Stalheim spotted these spooky space sounds. On a more worrying note, NASA has grounded the shuttle fleet (except for, err, the one currently in orbit) while they reconsider the issue of foam breaking away during launch. Fortunately Discovery seems to have reached orbit without the kind of serious damage that resulted in Columbia being destroyed during re-entry.
There's an email doing the rounds about how Mars will be "as big as the moon" in the sky around August. Seemed pretty unlikely to me, and Snopes have an explanation of how people may be confused.
Another email doing the rounds is this one, inspired by the recent terrorist attacks: The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do. Can't do any harm I guess.
Let's see if I actually have any PC-related stuff to report.. here's some 7800 GTX bits: HotHardware reviewed the eVGA card, while Tech-Report compared three of them and Leon sent in this petition for an AGP version of the card to be made.
ArsTechnica have a System Guide, where they recommend two gaming boxes. Guru3D have a buyer's guide also.
PCStats have a pretty decent guide to building a HTPC for your home theatre needs, while a killer desktop PC gets somewhat glossed over on Designtechnica.
A few people pointed out that updating illegal WindowsXP copies will be more difficult in future.
From Brendan: I’m probably not the first idiot to see this, but i found this page giving Vulcan language to English equivalents. why would someone bother? Someone has way too much spare time.
Doofus noticed this ABC story about Telstra's rural service being "unsustainable". They're not talking about ADSL, but "basic phone services".
Finally, smack the head off the Crazy Frog.. thanks Freefrag.
