TerminalError has an idea what to do when you don't want to cut the side-panels of your case.. also check out nice setups from Exciter and nemaste2 and Driver's cool LED's.
Kieran has found out how to make a dummy monitor for connecting to the video card of PC's that get upset when you run them without a monitor attached. This stops them from behaving strangely by making them think there's a monitor connected.
There's some discussion in the forums about whether AMD is dropping the 4 heatsink mounting holes in their socketA motherboard specification.. threads here and here.
Interesting article on HWZone about turning AthlonXP's into AthlonMP's. AMD always said that the XP's would work in SMP but were not supported - but it seems some motherboards refuse to detect more than one XP. HWZ have identified the CPU bridge that lets them work in SMP mode! This could work for Durons too, which would be cheap and grunty SMP indeed. Nice work and unsurprisingly it was Slashdotted, thanks to Hendot and a few others for letting us know.
Wired have an article about Australian clothing involving intelligent polymers that can generate power, protect the wearer and monitor your health.
Icrontic have info about IT Certifications, thanks BJ.
8Dimensional have put together some hefty directories of motherboard reviews and Game Reviews.
Yaleman says there are WindowsXP updates on WindowsUpdate now.. It's supposed to fix the "windows has recovered from a serious error" problem, which I have been getting a lot lately. There are updates for error reporting, one for resuming from shutdown, a keyboard layout update (good for us non-english typists) and another MSN update.
GotApex have compared the Lite-On LTR-40125S and Plextor PX-W4012TA/SW 40X CDRW drives.
VIAHW take another look at IBM's 120GXP-series hard drives in the light of statements made by IBM about their operating life. IBM have been copping a lot of flak lately about the reliability of their drives, particularly the 75GXP and (less so) 60GXP range.. for the record, I have 2 of each here and have been running them continuously for ages with no problems. Still, makes it hard to recommend them with some of the nightmares others are experiencing.
Looking for a little part-time work? Junkz spotted this.. looks like it could be a bit of a pain in the, ahh.. neck.. though.
