Check Your Smoke Alarms! (7 Comments) (link)
 Tuesday, 3-January-2006  14:43:33 (GMT +10) - by Agg

Fwoar sent in this NSW Fire Brigades page about smoke alarms, but it's useful info for all Australians. Bushfires are a concern at this time of year, but remember house fires can happen at any time. So, it's worth remembering to check your smoke alarm batteries. Research indicates that failure to properly install and replace smoke alarm batteries is a frequent cause of smoke alarm failure.

In NSW, from May 1st 2006, all residential accomodation will be required to have at least one working smoke alarm. Failure to do so risks a fine of up to $550, not to mention the more serious dangers of fire itself.

Even if you're not in NSW, get a smoke alarm, and make sure the batteries are good. It's not worth the risk!
