A security warning from Reemul: In it, Microsoft has recommended turning off the Windows Picture Viewer by un-registering the shimgvw.dll file temporally until a fix is released. Basically there is a vulnerability in Windows Meta Files .WMF files (16 bit image file) that can allow exploit code execution. That’s a problem because Windows Picture & Fax viewer will automatically open graphics file (and hence execute the infected code), without the user having to click on the file (either from email or website). Infected files don’t necessarily have to have the .WMF extension, but can be renamed to other graphic file types & Windows will still auto-open them. One site said there were 73 variants detected already. Update your Antispyware & Antivirus programs folks!

Hexus checked out the Intel "Paxville" Xeon DP 2.8GHz CPU. Less than 4GiB/sec to share between the better-performing four cores is pretty measly, with each Opteron core enjoying roughly twice that with interleaved accesses to a shared MC on 2-way dual-core Opteron.

T-Break checked out a few 2GB memory kits from Corsair, OCZ and TwinMOS. Corsair seems to offer the tightest timings out of the box with an SPD value of 2.0-3-2-6 while both the OCZ and TwinMOS stand at 2.5-3-3-8. The speed at which these modules are tested by their respective manufacturers is 438MHz for Corsair, 500MHz for OCZ and 400MHz for TwinMOS.

French site Overclex have an interesting watercooled case (translated link). Firstly, which types with the eye, it is the green serpentine which traverses the front face. It acts of Glycol + of antifreeze. Nice pics tho.

ARP have a short interview with Seagate about their acquisition of Maxtor. It's possible some of the branded solutions/retail products may maintain some Maxtor branding, but it's too early to tell. They're very strong in this space. We will retain the Seagate brand for all other products.
