Big news on Wired here: Micron Technology signed a tentative deal worth about $3.4 billion to buy most of the assets of Hynix Semiconductor, in a move that would reshape the world computer memory-chip market. If the purchase goes through, Micron would leapfrog Samsung Electronics to become the world's largest memory chipmaker, and Hynix, currently ranked third, would drop out of the sector.

BurnOutPC have a modding project going on..

WineX 2.0 is out now, thanks Jadlak. It's a nonfree program that lets you play DirectX games on Linux.. presumably in Wine on X, but I have no idea really. :)

Couldn't get enough of the frog-dissection days in high-school biology? Shame about killing all the frogs tho.. that's where frogguts comes in. A flash-based virtual frog dissection is a more environmentally sound educational solution. Still gross I imagine, but at least it won't have the smell. :) Thanks Grimwolge.

From Nick: Looks like XP SE will be released in the first quarter of 2003 and Longhorn (next windows version) in second half of 2004.

VIAHW have their coverage of WinHEC 2002 posted. The main purpose behind this gathering is to get hardware developers online with the Windows driver implementation process.

From Wild: Apparently the Spanish province Extremadura is using Linux in all schools and offices. And here's a Star Wars fan film on a very low budget (the whole 22-minute movie cost $5000 apparently).

DigitalDomination have an article about people people buying PC's faster than they need.. yeah, like that ever happens. :)

Apparently Episode 2: Send in the Clones might not suck as much as we expect it to. I saw "Queen of the Damned" the other day (which was pretty average, but anyway) and there was a preview of Ep2.. not a lot seemed to go on in the preview (compared to the previews for Ep1) and at the end there was a collective "whatever" expressed in pfft's and moans from the audience. :) From the sounds of that article, Mr Lucas knows a few things he did wrong and has tried to address them.

ExtremeCooling have a guide to modding a miniATX case.

From Roland: Anyone disappointed with ABIT TH7II MoBo for overclocking P4 Northwood, look no further! The BIOS found here (TH7H_7C01) is less than a week old and solved all problems I've had with above board. P4 1.8 GHz runs reliably at 2.2 GHz (FSB=122) and reboots every time. I've fixed the PCI speed and used core voltage of 1.7. Temperature has gone up only 3 degrees with no extra cooling. I'm sure it would go further but who needs it?

KyocEr@~* spotted this tiny bluetooth headset.. very cool.

Mad1 noticed that Nintendo Australia have dropped the release price of their GameCube to AUD$329, no doubt in response to the $399 Xbox price announced recently. Still about a month until you can buy one, tho.
