ANZAC Day Afternoon (0 Comments) (link)
 Thursday, 25-April-2002  15:15:50 (GMT +10) - by Agg

Hope you all took a minute to remember why today's a public holiday. Thanks to Darkness for making up a special logo for today. Lest we forget.

The site's very busy today actually, Manaz's HDD Autopsy has attracted quite a bit of attention. It's been a pretty big month already but now we're definitely steaming towards breaking our record yet again. More info early next month when the figures are finalised.

People hanging out in the #overclockers IRC channel last night were treated to an IceCast-streamed concert by Andypoo from SecretNet.. he'd hooked up a midi keyboard and was pumping out the tunes for a couple of hours.. he can really play, too. :)

OCAU major sponsor ComputerAlliance put some info into their latest newsletter about our folding team and encouraging their customers to join. Nice one, Adam! Also, our resident Master of Folding, Martin AKA Bollocks, has been contacted by Australian Personal Computer magazine - they have prepared an article about Folding and OCAU's battle to compete with the top American teams, for their June issue available at the end of May.

AMD have officially announced their SledgeHammer processor now.. and they called it "Opteron". I still think there's a Klingon running around their marketing department. The AMD Opteron™ processor is based on AMD’s 8th-generation processor core, which will represent the landmark introduction of the industry’s first x86-64 technology. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to provide investment protection, running existing 32-bit applications with unsurpassed performance, and offering customers a seamless transition to 64-bit technology. Also: In another key milestone, AMD announced today it is collaborating with Microsoft to incorporate 64-bit support for the future 8th-generation AMD Athlon and AMD Opteron processors into the Windows® operating system. AMD Opteron processors are also planned to be supported by 64-bit operating systems from major Linux vendors. Anandtech have an in-depth look at what it is and what it means.. so do AMDMB and TomsHardware, thanks Jim. There's a conference call with info on HotHardware and more about Microsoft's involvement on SiliconStrategies, thanks leperMessiah.

Guru3D checked out a couple of GF4 Ti revisions to see if there's any noticeable difference.
