Wednesday Morning #2 (0 Comments) (link)
 Wednesday, 8-May-2002  10:38:24 (GMT +10) - by Agg

I found this page which collates a lot of info about IBM HDD's.. firmware, reviews, info about reliability problems and they link to our 75GXP Autopsy too.

The 533MHz P4 buzz still rages, but at the moment chipset support for these CPU's is minimal, limited to the i850E. However, some i845 variants with support are on the way - LiamC has some info on i845G and Jarne says this Finnish site has pics and benchmarks of an i845E board - The manufacturer or model name is held secret due to NDA but you can see that the motherboard carries the diagnostic display which epox uses.

From Joey: Just wanted to let you know I joined your SETI@Home team in 2nd place and am heading for the top very soon , looks like your number 1 member has been inactive for a long time , so it wont be long long before you have an active Number 1 member :) Thanks Joey!

RecordNow Max 4.0 is apparently some new whizzo CD and DVD burning software.. simultaneous reviews on MrPCPro and IANAG.

Win one of 10 Ratpadz on OCrCafe.

ThinkTechie have a guide to replacing LED's: They say Marijuana is known as a gateway drug. It is a gateway drug because once you do it you are more willing to take more hardcore drugs. The LED replacement Mod is known at ThinkTechie as the gateway mod! Because once you do it you're gonna be hooked on modding! ..and then where would you be? :)

Speaking of which, BurnOutPC have a guide to quietening your PSU.. let's hope they don't live up to their name.

From Gasman: I'm not sure how long this has been going on but PCAuthority mag publish the Hitwise stats, and right at the top of the list on page 20 of the June edition is OCAU. Cool. :)

AMD3D have a mini interview with MSI.

Tee spotted just the thing for when you've been a naughty, naughty little SysAdmin.

A heap of people sent word that RedHat 7.3 is now out. Mirror here, thanks Jadlak.

SilentSniper says this Jedi Knight II patch fixes a bunch of things and also adds EAX 3.0 and OpenAL support :) I suspect it's the same one from PersianImmortal, but he has more official-looking links here and here and says The list of changes/additions is long.

It's been a while, but ZZZ Online have a new issue out, full of the usual whacky stuff like an inflatable building and a secure hair storage facility.

Kinda old but still reeling them in, the TV-Card overclocking guide, thanks Shannell.

TweakTown have a nVidia Graphics Tweaking guide.. for basic overclocking of your nVidia card, check our Overclocking with CoolBits guide.

Dan put up more letters, some even with helpful answers. The SiS 6326 had lousy 3D performance by the standards of 1999. By current standards, the thing is quite remarkably steenky.

SilentSniper spotted some Beta VIA AGP and INF drivers - Supposdly they add support for a new chip coming out in the near future. Beats me. Beta drivers, so don't blame us if Something Horrible happens.

There's a LAN on in Castle Hill, Sydneyish, on the 25th/26th - info here. Let's hope they're better at running lans than they are at designing websites.. (rubs eyes).

Flash timewaster for today: Mini Putt, thanks elvis.

..and we are FINALLY up to date with the news box.. yay!
