This is fairly big news: APD International was one of AMD's largest distributors until last month when the vendor unexpectedly terminated the agreement and refused to inform the market on the reasons for the decision. APD are the official AMD distro in Australia (but there are other, smaller "parallel" distros). That article focuses on the warranty aspect of this issue, but I'm sure APD will continue to meet their statutory warranty requirements at the very least. I'm informed by a vendor that AMD CPU's are an extremely rare warranty return anyway - apart from cracked/chipped cores, which are almost always not warranty-able anyway, as is usually the case with products that have been physically damaged. The reason for the split between AMD and APD is not known, despite lots of speculation.. thanks Mr Grimm.

Wired have info on UnitedLinux, which is a standardized distribution of the Linux operating system, and is designed to woo more businesses to the open-source operating system, according to executives of the four partner companies. Also, they cover "lowercase music", which is almost not music at all.

Dan's been working on a DIY UPS project..

There's a LAN on in the Central Coast (of NSW, I assume) soon.. rego here, info here.

Some more extreme cooling going on over at ExtremeCooling.org, surprisingly enough.

TonyR spotted info on some new Amigas: This is in effect a 600Mhz G3 Amiga accelerator with built in 10/100 ethernet, USB, PCI/AGP interface and memory slots for up to 2GB of SDRAM.

Gaz saves us all from mental enslavement with the Mind-Control Deflector Beanie. Whenever I put a beanie on, I think I'm in The Agg Witch Project, so no more beanies for me.
