Intel QX9770 Previews (1 Comments) (link)
 Tuesday, 20-November-2007  18:52:12 (GMT +10) - by Agg

The bad news for AMD is that Intel have sucker-punched the Phenom launch, by sending out samples of their own QX9770 quad-core CPU to be unveiled on the same day. This is a chip that Intel admit won't be available until Q1 2008 and will be priced well above Phenom, but it's a pretty clear show of strength to try and crash AMD's party. This is a Penryn CPU and almost identical to the QX9650 that Chainbolt covered in his article here. The differences are a 3.2GHz core speed and a 1600MHz FSB.

Coverage on Anandtech, BootDaily, HardOCP, HotHardware, LegitReviews, NeoSeeker, PC Perspective, Techgage and Techspot.

I think Anandtech summed it up best: Intel plays dirty. But then again, why shouldn't they? Discussion in this thread in our Intel Hardware forum.
