Microsoft have withdrawn their offer to buy Yahoo after months of negotiations. Microsoft has withdrawn its proposal to acquire Yahoo, Microsoft CEO Stephen Ballmer said in a letter to Yahoo made public today. Despite our best efforts, including raising our bid by roughly $US5 billion ($5.37 billion), Yahoo has not moved toward accepting our offer.

Fortune Magazine reports that Steve Jobs dropped from No. 1 to No. 120 in the Top-paid CEOs list. Having topped Forbes‘ list of the U.S.’s highest-paid CEOs last year with a total compensation of $646 million — thanks almost entirely to restricted stock grants that vested in 2006 — Apple’s $1-a-year CEO dropped to No. 120 this year. Total 2007 compensation: a mere $14.6 million.

Anandtech have a quick update to their VelociRaptor article after receiving a new drive with the latest firmware. The acoustic and thermal characteristics of the new drive did not differ from our previous results. However, the performance differences noticed when testing the new drive is worth a quick update to our original article.
