NVIDIA GeForce 200 Series (13 Comments) (link)
 Tuesday, 17-June-2008  02:33:43 (GMT +10) - by Agg

As expected, NVIDIA have revealed their new generation of graphics processors, the GeForce 200 Series. One of the most powerful processors in the PC is the GPU. Rendering 3D images in real-time is just about the most mathematically intensive task your PC will ever undertake, but it’s not the only one. As PC applications become increasingly visual, many ordinary tasks will benefit from the graphics horsepower provided by the GPU, including encoding and playing high-definition videos, editing photos, getting driving directions off the Internet, or simply running a new operating system like Windows Vista. Quite a big mention of Folding@Home in the press-release, too.

This is quite a big deal, with CUDA and PhysX support, as NVIDIA push the market closer to using the GPU for general-purpose computing. So far the products include GeForce GTX 260 and GeForce GTX 280.

Coverage on Bjorn3D, BenchmarkReviews, CPU3D, DriverHeaven, Guru3D, HardOCP (and interesting pricing info here), HotHardware, HWSecrets (and here), I4U, InsideHW, LegitReviews, NeoSeeker, nV News, OC3D, OCClub, PCPerspective (and Folding/Transcoding info here), t-break, TechReport, TechPowerUp and Tweaktown (and here).

There's a big discussion thread here.. and if you do buy one of these for Folding@HOME purposes, remember OCAU is Team 24. :)
