OCAU forum member slate37 set off on his bicycle with his father and step-brother, to ride unsupported across from Brisbane to Broome (~5000km) to raise donations and awareness for Plan and Beyond Blue charities.
Quite simply we wish to improve awareness of major global issues, especially poverty and the impact it has on children in developing countries around the world. There are a number of fantastic charities providing hope for the future and Australians are showing an increased willingness to help. We've chosen to support Plan since they have no political or religious affiliation and have a proven record of delivering results efficiently. Plan guarantees at least 80% of money donated gets to the children, families and communities they work with, meaning maximum bang-for-buck.
Currently they have raised over $5,000 dollars with a final target of $10,000. You can keep track of their journey and donate some spare cash through their website. Discussion on the forum.
