InfoWorld are saying there may be no opt-out ability in the proposed Australian government internet content filtering system. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) contacted by Computerworld say blanket content filtering will cripple Internet speeds because the technology is not up to scratch. Discussion here.

Issue two of The Overclocker Magazine is now out, featuring among other things an interview with Intel's performance engineer Francios Piednoel, asking questions from members of our Intel Hardware Forum. General discussion of the mag is here.

Facebook passed the 10 billion photos mark recently. To celebrate, we got a bunch of cupcakes and handed them out to our engineering and operations groups. One of our engineers calculated that if we had gotten one cupcake for each of our photos, and lined them up side by side, the line could reach halfway to the moon.

PopularMechanics list their top ten most brilliant gadgets of 2008. The early 20th century produced a breathtaking succession of innovations—the Wright Flyer, the Model T, the Panama Canal. It was a golden age of engineering. A century hence, observers may well look back at our era in much the same way.
