The Great Firewall of Australia continues to be on everyone's mind, with threads here and here. I admit I've been finding it hard to get motivated about this, simply because I just think the whole idea is such an unworkably huge waste of time. As we've seen a zillion times before it simply won't work (like it doesn't in China, who have more money to spend on it), it will be easily bypassed (by moving dodgy content to https, FTP, torrents, newsgroups, using anonymous proxies, etc) and all that'll happen is we'll spend millions of taxpayer dollars on it and continue to look like the backward cousins of the world technology community. People who want access to dodgy content will still have it and the rest of us will be the ones suffering from the expense and technological limitations involved, even if we have no interest in dodgy content.
For more info, there's a site here opposed to the clean feed, another one here and there's a petition here. But really, the best thing to do would be to write to your local member of parliament and clearly express your concerns.
