Arthur sent in a pile of interesting snippets:
Ars Technica has a review of the 2008 MacBook Pro. Steve Ballmer says that Windows 7 is Vista but Improved and whilst we’re on the subject of Microsoft, the Inquirer is reporting that the Silicon Valley giant has been awarded a patent for speech censoring . Panasonic has released a world first; Lumix G1 - Micro Four Thirds Camera. Meanwhile Australian Taxation Office is carrying out a sting operation targeted at eBay traders who attempt to avoid paying tax on income earned through the site.
The Business of Tech: AMD & Intel Q3’08, report Anandtech. Now that we have the quarterly numbers in for both Intel (who reported Tuesday) and AMD (who reported Thursday) we’re going to take a quick stroll through the numbers to see what’s up.
EA's DRM, arrogance may cause gamers to skip good titles, say ArsTechnica. Unfortunately, the politics of piracy prevention are now hurting both EA and the gamers that want to support quality titles, and it doesn't look like there will be a happy resolution in the near future.
We'll never stop pirates, says Microsoft. Meanwhile the Apple-Microsoft ad war gets ugly. Apple's ads have long lampooned the PC for being staid and uncool but, this time, Apple's target isn't the PC per se, but Microsoft's marketing strategy.
ATI are looking for more advanced cooling for video cards, say XbitLabs. According to the company, vapor chambers provide up to 30% better cooling performance when compared to heat-pipes. In addition, vapor chambers are relatively easy to utilize. Still, vapor chambers require sophisticated heat-spreaders, just like heat-pipe based coolers.
Thanks Arthur!
