BFG Technologies have unveiled their new water cooled GeForce GTX 285 H2O graphics card. Looking for a single-slot solution that will stay cool under hot situations? Danger Den has the answer despite its dangerous name, co-developing a very cool solution with manufacturer BFG Technologies. With the Thermo Intelligence Water Cooling solution, BFG's latest GeForce GTX 285 graphics card--the GeForce GTX 285 H2O--will deliver up to a 42°C lower GPU operating temperature than "reference" cooling solutions using standard air cooling.
According to an article on InfoWorld, Internet Explorer 8 will be the last version of the browser. IE8 is the last version of the Internet Explorer Web browser. At least, that's what I'm hearing through the grapevine. It seems that Microsoft is preparing to throw in the towel on its Internet Explorer engine once and for all. And just what will be its replacement? I’m getting conflicting stories on that one. Some are still claiming that Microsoft will go with WebKit, which, thanks to the popularity of Apple's Safari browser and also Google's Chrome, is rapidly becoming a de facto standard for all non-IE and non-Firefox implementations.
Users of Norton Antivirus software were sent "into a frenzy by triggering their firewalls with an unsigned security patch". In what a blogging Symantec Sherlock Holmes called, "a case of human error," a diagnostic patch named PIFTS.exe was sent out "unsigned", causing firewalls to prompt the user for access to the Internet. Spooked users trying to figure out if they'd been targeted by some kind of hack began bombarding Symantec message boards for information.
According to security vendors Symantec, Sophos and Kaspersky their internet security software will block legalised hacking attempts by NSW Police. "Symantec's commitment, first and foremost, is to securing its customers' information and as such, Symantec software will block all attempts to compromise its customers' information, regardless of where the threats are coming from," a Symantec spokesperson said in a statement.
Ars Technica has posted an in-depth article on in-flight internet access, the technology behind it and what we can look forward to. If you want to escape the Internet, taking flight will no longer be an excuse. Internet access has arrived on dozens of planes flying domestic US routes, with hundreds of aircraft across seven airlines expected to be online by the third quarter of 2009. Early reviews indicate that at least two competing in-flight Internet services work consistently and offer reasonable speeds. In this article, we'll take an in-depth look into why WiFi up high failed once, and we'll examine the technology behind its recent rebirth. We'll also look at the cost of using the Internet at 35,000 feet, which airlines have made which choices, and what the future brings for entertainment and coverage.
Google's new behavioural ads have some privacy groups worried. Google's newest advertising strategy, behavioural targeting, has finally arrived. The strategy, referred to as "interest-based" advertising, will go beyond current targeted advertising practices and track your Internet usage habits in order to serve an ad that the search giant hopes is better suited for you. This means that, instead of visiting a music site and simply getting music-related ads, you might visit a music site and getting ads for the newest "Cats Meowing Christmas Carols" album—because Google knows you spend 95 percent of your Internet time at Catster.
Engineers Planning Waterworld-esque Floating City at Sea - With two thirds of the Earth covered in water, many have long envisioned building colonies on the high seas. While such ideas have been around for hundreds of years (or earlier depending on your interpretation of the Atlantis myths), the engineering expertise need to implement them remained out of reach. Now, modern engineering has finally caught up to such dreams, and some are planning to build the world's first test floating city. The Seasteading Institute has announced detailed plans for a floating city tethered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Francisco.
AMD's upcoming RV790 chip will have a different pin layout out to the RV770. The PCB and the pin layout will be different for RV790 and we also heard that the new board will have two power connectors, one 6-pin and one 8-pin, but this doesn’t come as surprise as 4870 has two.
Hyundai Mobile have unveiled their new mobile phone watch in the shape of the 'MP-910'. It uses a 132 x 176 pixel 65k colour touch screen display, has support for Bluetooth 2.0 for streaming calls directly to a wireless headset, supports SMS and MMS (come on, if a watch can do it Apple...), and lasts a remarkable 70 hours in standby and a more typical three hours in call.
