There's quite a buzz about a rootkit code to exploit major Intel CPU flaw which is apparently being released today. Thursday, March 19th, 1600 UTC, we will publish a paper (+ exploits) on exploiting Intel® CPU cache mechanisms. The attack allows for privilege escalation from Ring 0 to the SMM on many recent motherboards with Intel CPUs. Rafal implemented a working exploit with code execution in SMM in a matter of just a few hours. Discussion and more links here.

Apparently people in NSW can look forward to higher electricity bills, thanks Brains. A draft determination by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) for 2009-10 electricity prices says Energy Australia customers can expect bills to rise by 21.5 per cent from July.

John Gatt, who you might remember as a VIA marketing guy from a while back, is doing a fund-raising bike ride to help put an end to Polio. I can't change my balding head or my bad eyesight but maybe I can get rid of that spare tire and help get rid of polio in the process.

Sniper sent word that IBM may be in talks to buy Sun Microsystems. Buying Sun would help IBM widen its lead over Hewlett- Packard Co. in the $US53.1 billion market for computer servers. More here.

Apple have released announced iPhone firmware 3.0, although I haven't updated mine yet. Apparently it brings cut and paste, MMS and a few other things, thanks Timbot. More info here on Gizmodo.
